Hi All, I purchased the Trick Flow 240 heads (TFS-61617801-C00), rocker shaft studs, ARP head bolt kit, Fel-pro head gaskets, valley pan/intake/header gasket kit. I currently have an MP Purpleshaft 292 HFT cam (509 lift). For intake I have a Performer RPM Hi rise intake and for headers I have Hedman 1-3/4" headers. Does anyone know off hand what else I will need to purchase since I am gathering them up?
Street with occasional trips to the track.
Thanks!
Looking at your part list, valve cover gaskets.
Go to the sister sight, FABO, and look up member AndyF. Search his posts. At the bottom of the posts he made is a link that is to all the threads he started. Andy was kind enough to document all of his work before it made the magazine’s.
In his posts, you’ll find his B block 470 cubic inch engine making use of these heads and the various rocker arms he tried. IIRC, he went through 4 rocker arm companies until he got what he liked on top of the head.
While his build is a wild one, there is a lot of pertinent information that you will find extremely useful and tips, parts and tricks that you can use on your engine build. I seriously suggest upgrading the rocker arm set up in full. If you can’t measure pushrod length, a company like Hughesengines will loan you the tools and deduct that amount when you return the tools & when you purchase pushrods from them. It is the EZ button pushed that way.
Otherwise, it looks like your good to go.
Get a much better cam and a bigger set of headers. Otherwise ur waisting those heads. Kim
Not necessarily so since the head flows a listed 280 cfm @.500, a whopping amount more than stock. What I would agree on, is a better cam for the “need” and the headers I agree on. But new headers and possibly an exhaust system is quite pricey and not truly needed just because he swapped on new heads and! Not truly taking full advantage of.
What I would like to know about is what exactly did
@Stampy167 do for exhaust? The 1-7/8 header pipe maybe a bit small but it is not the end of the world. LOL
At the moment, I don’t see a NEED to change out headers (cost considerations only) even though there is power to be gained. (Not a lot IMO.) Depending on what he has for an exhaust system, size pipe and configuration, he could gain nicely from there. And a lot cheaper to boot.
If it were I going from scratch with what he listed above, TTI system in full would be an excellent street system with use of the longer Hemi style mufflers from Dynomax because they have a very high flow rate. An “X” or “H” pipe would be the personal call.
I myself like the “H” pipe because it keeps the engines idle “choppy” in sound. The “X” pipe I installed on the wife’s car did smooth out the exhaust note at idle and while driving, it is a bit quiter. But sounds really good.
