What is your second choice?

I owned a 1967 Chevelle, 1966 Ford Fairlane and a 1973 Ford Mustang i really liked all those cars. But after owning 2 Mopars thats all I`ll ever own again as far as classic cars are concerned. I think all the classic mopars are so cool looking. They just have such a great look to them thats all I can say.

Wow...there are so many cool cars out there. Probably some of the most fun I've ever had in my life was when I was in to Porsches and did some racing. Totally different kind of car than a Mopar, but a ton of fun to drive. I've owned a 69 and a 70 MACH 1, both 4 speeds. Pretty cool, but I would probably keep my S-197 over both of them.....especially if I ever get a puffer for it.

Got mine: '78 Ford F250 300 inline/factory 3 on the tree. Grandad bought it new, Pop had it, now I've got it. The 300 is remaining in place with some mods (how's 400+ ft/lbs of torque @ 3000-3500 grab you?) with the 3 speed being replaced with an NV4500, the Dana getting a set of 4.11s and a limited slip, changing the wheels to heavy rated 17"s, throwing modern disks out back, and laying in a custom interior?

We all know our first choice is a MoPar, but you guys and gals must have something else OTHER THAN A MOPAR you admire or have dabble in.

I'll start it off.

Mid 60's to early 70's Fords.

I have owned around 150 cars in the last 42 years, most were muscle, sports, antique, and special interest types.

90% of the time there are a maximum of 2 people in my car. I have owned around 20 Corvettes from 1954--1973 and my choice is a mid year (63-67) Corvette coupe hands down. The have timeless styling and are art on wheels for looks. Even with the limited tire space in the factory wheel wells they handle nice. They have a really nice interior with a lot of luggage space. Great long distance cruising car. If you modify the car with fender flairs as was a big day two mod back in the day, you can fit some BIG tires under them and the cars look great with the fenders flaired. It is amazing with the tire technology of today how much better they handle. The IRS that began in 1963 was pretty much unchanged except for lighter weight materials until Chevy began building computer controlled suspension. The vast majority of the handling improvements from 1963 were due to the bigger tires that were allowed with the newer bodies.

I have always like those myself but never managed to scrape together enough dough to buy one. In the 80's when they were $6K I was $6K short and now I'm $50K short - or whatever the going rate is. Years ago I talked my way into driving my friends 71 for the 100 mile trip home when he bought it back in the 80's and it was the most comfortable sports car I drove to date. I just melted into the seat.

One thing I get out of your comment is you put some seat time in the cars you owned. In my personal opinion one can't properly comment on a car until one has put in the seat time. I recently sold my 72 911T. A fun car to drive on short trips - and I'll build the engines all day long (talk about a work of art) - but I'll never commute in one again.

Yeah, I plan on driving everything I buy. I am not a trailer queen kind of guy. I want them to look nice, pretty stock, and be dependable. I could care less about grease pencil marks and cosmoline. I have made many 500+ mile trips in many of my old muscle cars over the years.

PS
I see some of the guys have listed newer muscle cars which I was not thinking of, but rather OTHER OLDER muscle. There is something to be said for a newer Mustang at the fair factory pricing, warranty, and insurable for daily driving. Hey, just like they were back in the late 60s and early 70s. There is more to this NEW muscle car thing than just the retro look. It is a daily driver that can replace what most guys are using for a weekend cruiser but more dependible in most cases. These new cars are running the same 1/4 mile times of most of the old muscle cars of the day with twice the mileage. Am I talking myself into a new car? Naw.

It is a beautiful thing, horsepower AND gas mileage! Save the cosmoline for the firearms and yes, you are talking yourself into a new car, a brand spankin' new challenger SRT-8!! LOL :tongueflap:

Stuart, I think you got the answer to this one wrong. You're an Aero Car guy so I know you'd have a Talladega if the right deal came along.

Chris, I must have somehow forgotten that you had a Torino stashed in that eclectic collection of yours. What color will that thing be upon completion?

I have a pair of bowties taking up residence in my MoPar-Dominated garage. A '67 Malibu and a Pro-Street '78 Z-28. Neither will be permanent fixtures, although I have owned the Camaro since '92. Time flies. Where is that freakin' "FOR SALE" sign I was looking for...???

What I'd like to have sitting next to my A12 RR, SS/T, and various A-Bodies would be a Rebel Machine and or a S/C Rambler. I've always had a soft spot for all of those goofy AMC offerings. If I was gonna add a phord to the mix it would be a Boss 302...and I'd yank the rev limiter off of it...

oops...I should add that I really like the new Challengers. Not having spent a lot of time behind the wheel of one I can't really compare it to my S-197, but I CAN say that I like way the traction control on the Challenger works much better than on the S-197.

For me it's lightweight sports cars, usually modified and tuned for roadracing.

Here's my modified Miata. It's pretty cool for a gay car...1950lbs and 250hp makes for good times on the track. This thing kills on mountain roads.

Here's my Ariel Atom. It's just crazy--I've managed to make mine street legal in CA. 1300lbs, 300hp and 0-60 in under 3 seconds.

I also have a 1988 Toyota MR2 SC, but that's just a beater daily car...though it'll eventually be modded for occasional track use.

Tell us about the "Unique" front end on the Miata !

Tell us about the "Unique" front end on the Miata !

The Miata has been thoroughly customized. Every removeable body panel has been removed and replaced with a carbon composite lightweight equivalent. I basically rebodied the whole car.

I built the front end of the Miata over the course of a few years...the nose portion (just the front bumper/headlights) was taken from a kit made by a small boutique operation in Japan that has long since gone out of business. The whole front clip weighs only 28lbs and utilizes a foam cored carbon fiber structure.

Since that picture was taken, I've added a fastback to the car. Now it doesn't even look like a Miata anymore.

I have a 55 dodge truck 66 fury 67 polara wagon 68 fury 68 sport fury 68 charger and a 71 demon,,, although mopars are the best they are always not available when i have a few dollars laying around so here is a list of a few of the brand x cars i have
1930 model a roadster (354 chrysler hemi powered)
1956 buick special
1964 cadillac hearse
1964 lincoln continental
1970 gto convertible clone

brand x cars i actually like
1959-1960 buick
1958 chevy but i would have to put a big block mopar in it :D
1970-1971 trans am
1963-1965 riviera
1958 ford

Dear Santa,

My second choice would be a black 1934 Ford Coupe hot rod with chopped top (or convertable) and flames down the side. Any engine would be fine (I won't be picky) as long as it has a big fat supercharger on it.

Always wanted one... always will...

I always liked the 70 and 71 Torino's and for some weird reason I have a thing for the 71-73 Trans Ams. (Could be because everybody I know owned(s) a Camaro.)

Don't hate me but I love the AWD system Subaru's have. I would love to get a 04ish wrx wagon to take into the mountains during winter time. I do a lot of snowboarding/skiing and hiking and the AWD is amazing on snow and the gravel forest service roads that I drive on. Nothing beats rally pedigree for a fun car that I could beat the s**t out of and not have to worry about carrying chains or scratching. The highway patrol will pull you over if you are not in a 4wd or AWD going up to the pass.

The Torino sure as hell wont be the baby sh&t brown that it came in! Probably white. I forgot you have a love of AMC's, I would like a Rebel Machine myself. I seem to remember something about a Nash Metropolitan?:tongueflap::rolling: By the way what color is your Z-28? Any pics?

Yep. Like the little Metros. Kind of the automotive equivilent of a puppy...

You already know what color the token F-Body is... In my defense I'll add that colors like that were in vogue at the time (1993) the car was painted. I wanted a pearlescent purple of some sort and my buddy/painter talked me into the DuPont Hot Pink. The narrowed 8.75" and 31" X 18.5" MT Sportsmans help to restore some degree of masculinity...and I can take some solice in the fact that I didn't paint it red like every 9 out of 10 other Camaros out there...

Here's a fairly recent shot of the Z with some of my other toys...
