I have purchased a 493/440 kit from Mancini along with a pair of aluminum Stealth heads from 440source. I plan on running a Comp Cams XR280HR-10 extreme hydraulic roller that specs of 280/288 advertised duration with 541/537 lift with 1.5 rockers Harland Sharp roller rockers. The power band for the cam is from 2200-6000 so I want to run an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and a 800-850 cfm carb. Hooker will supply a set of Comp headers with 1 7/8" primaries and 3" collector. I am hoping for a mid 500 horse motor on pump gas with a freindly 10.5:1 compression ratio. It will be going in a 1966 Plymouth Satellite with a 727 torqueflite, 2500-3000 stall converter, and 3.23 gearing in the 8 3/4 rear. Do you think the recipe could be good for some 12 second passes?

Yes, you should have enough power to run in the 12's The 3:23 gears will hurt you. I would think with some 4:10's you could hit the hi 11"s

Yeah it sounds like a solid build - let us know what numbers come up

Maybe later when I get the money to add a Gearvenders OD I'll step up with some gear. Right now it is all about the cruising with an occassional blast at the track.

robinsonwr the 500hp should be a no brainer & 12's is easy if you have the correct set up in the car, chassis, trans, tire combo. You could allways run some 3.73-1 or 3.91-1 gears they are both managable on the street, I went 9.77et 135mph on drag radials with 3.73's with a 479ci 4.15" stroker 383 b-engine in my 3500lb RR that was street driven not many freeways here where I live. Tires & gears maybee a little more coverter 11's easy. As long as it's tuned properly, remeber it's the whole combo not just the big engine. Good luck sounds like fun.

I agree with Budnicks, 3.73 or 3.91's...I put 3.91's in the pumpkin of the roadrunner. Calculator's saying 3200 RPM at 70MPH with a 28.5" tall tire...

Either way with your current set up, 12's shouldn't be an issue

I really want a stock appearing Satellite that will run within reason and cruise until the sun goes down. I have had really quick cars in the past that were street legal. I want a screaming grocery getter with weld in connectors, torque boxes, and no rollbar/cage to give it away. The car will probably sport a 275/60-15 outback on some 15x8 torque thrust d's. I want to relive the days of riding to the track in my dads 1966 Hemi Satellite 4 speed car and taking the slicks out of the trunk and having fun.

the only flaw i see so far is the gearing. i don't think i would go 4;10 though. i would start with 3;73 and go from there.

I went to the Holley Carb Interactive section on their website just to see what carb they suggested you to run with your set-up. This is what I came up with. I wasn't 100%sure about your set-up so you could look for yourself to see what you come up with. It is under Technical.

1: 850cfm electric choke and vacuum secondary part# 0-80531
2: 870cfm electric choke and vacuum secondary part# 0-80870

Also 3:73 gears would still cruise great but would get you going a ton quicker when some yuppie in his new Camaro wanted to test his luck. It is something to seriously consider.

Wedge5,
I absolutely agree about more gear and the benefits of them. Forgive me for saying this (CHEVY stuff)but I just got rid of street/strip 1979 z28 with a pump gas 496 bbc with stages of spray. I took the car to the track to play before it was ready without the nitrous with 3.08 gears and 30x12.5 et streets. It went 11.69 @ 120 mph off the trailer which I thought was wonderful. Then I stuck some 4.10 gears to her and she came alive running high 10s and low 11s in street atire still without the power adder. Got rid of it because I have always loved the MOPARz. My dad was a MOPAR finatic (God rest his soul) when I was growing up. He had a 1966 Hemi Satellite 4-speed car, 1967 RT 440 4-speed car, and 1967 GTX 440 4-speed car any of which I would give my right arm for today. I bought my 1966 Satellite 361 Commando because it is the same paint and interior scheme as his hemi car. I hope my kids get as much enjoyment out of this build as I did growing up.
