I count 9 bolts but it does not match any of the rear ends identified in the chart. My goal is to add a sure grip if possible but I need to identify it first.
Thanks MF

Ok is this a 71/4? 9bolts....??? Looks like it darn

if it came in your 70 satellite 318 it was a 8 1/4
they never put a 71/4 in a b body
that was a a body rear that would need some kind of mods to fit a b body.

Any idea if I can convert to a sure grip? Worth it?

9 bolts for the 7 1/4, 8 1/4 had 10.

yes you can add a sure grip
might take a bit of searching for the parts
worth it?
depends what are your plans?
if you are looking to go faster, more hp ,most people toss them and upgrade to a 83/4
that will hold up longer.

never heard of one in a b before???
still looks like the 8 I have to me
now I have questions
are the perches moved at all?
any offset hangers??

does the car have a fender tag???
the codes will tell you exactly what it came with

No telling how it got there....I've found stranger stuff in these 50 year cars. I enlarged the pic and the axle tube kinda looks like it's been welded to the center section....? Also, it's been so long since seeing a 7 1/4 that I'm not sure if I'd be able to identify one lol

Not true. I have a 7 1/4 here from a factory 225 '66 Coronet. There's a 7 1/4 from a '71 318 Barracuda in the woods next door (yeah, E body I know). They were used w 318 A bodies, likely w 318 B bodies too. Definitely not common though. Your axle in the pic is a 7 1/4.

My 66 Belvedere came with one too.....225 auto. Was thinking that by 70, they weren't using them anymore? Probably /6 cars. No use using anything bigger for one.

I didn’t see anything showing axle type the metal tag that can be seen shoes a 271 ratio however.
