What Will It Run?

Good night at Thursday night Test n Tune last night in preparation for the Orlando NMCA event next week. Since last time out, a couple of more changes to the car. First, the trans now has a reverse manual valve body in it. I still need to sort that out. I much prefer the push to shift as opposed to the pull to shift that I have now. I need to order some parts to turn the shifter around (Precision Performance Shifter). The second change was adding a crankcase evac system. Best run of the night was also a new personal best:

R/T .032
60' 1.449
330 4.209
1/8 6.590
mph 102.24
1000 8.690
1/4 10.497
mph 124.05

DA was 1100ft

My short(ish) term goal has been to race the 10.50 index. If I can hit this number consistently next week, it looks like I may be there!

Nice to see it coming together!

Looking back to the first time that I posted when this thread started....11.787 at 116. I have shaved off over a second. Here is a summary of the changes made to get it there:

4.88 gears changed to 4.30
looser converter installed
changed from solid flat tappet cam to solid roller with more lift and less duration
changed from factory style crossram intake to Indy 440-25
changed from standard valve body to reverse manual valve body

Engine internals have not been touched. Other than changing valve springs, heads have not been touched.

Last mod I have planned is to add a windage tray. Other than that, I will be staying at this power level for a while as I think I have maxed out the potential without getting into major surgery.

What’s the best ET/speed you got out of it before you changed things on the engine?

Attached is my spreadsheet that shows progress and notes the changes made to the set up.

Looks like you went 10.74@123 at Rockingham, before getting into the motor.

I didn’t see where in the mix the converter change happened.

Throwing some numbers around......
The Moroso chart shows 10.49 ET “should” be accompanied by 127mph.
Using a basic 1/8 to 1/4 calculation(1.57), 6.59 in the 1/8 “should” be good for a 10.34.

It seems as though the car is doing a better job on the front half than the back half.

Good luck this weekend!!

You are making improvements. So trending in the right direction. When you make a large improvement then you know the previous set up was off. Plenty out there making changes with little or no improvement. In my case. My car ran a 9.30@145 on it's second outing in good air. 10 years later it has the makings of a low 8.90@150. Same untouched heads (maint valve job at 750 passes), same compression, cam, intake, headers. Different carbs, converter(s), and a liitle lighter.

After the NMCA event in Orlando this weekend, a new best was set with the car during testing:

60 1.439
330 4.202
1/8 6.557
mph 103.52
1000 8.628
1/4 10.408
mph 126.03

DA for this run was 261 ft.

I ran the 10.50 index and qualified with a 10.523, but got bounced first round to the eventual event winner with a 10.562. Let off at the stripe and crossed at 119.76mph. Had I stayed in it, I may have had him.

You both lifted. Not sure what you would've run flat out. But it doesn't look like 10.50. 7 mph scrub is about .02-.03. Have to see a few complete slips. Never the less good progress. Doug's car was really good. His R/Ts were beatable for sure.

This thread has been quiet for a while because the motor has been in the machine shop getting rebuilt. It is supposed to go to the dyno tomorrow. Accepting guesses for power level. Here is the spec:

512" RB 440 source kit with lightweight crank
12.5:1 compression
Edelbrock Victor heads
Indy 440-25 intake
dual eddy 750 carbs
Comp cams solid roller 660 intake/682 exhaust 260 duration intake 272 exhaust

Sounds like it better be 700 plus hp. I'd be very disappointed if I doesn't make at least 700.
Mid to low tens in your car.

What size port and have they been ground on? Flow sheet?

I went 10.408 with the old set up that was 10.5:1, I would love to be around 10.0.

Indy 440-25 intake
Nice overall specs. I will be particularly interested in the intake and how it performs.
Best of luck to you!
I see some power output estimates...
With the BMP aluminum RB block based 572 cu in stroker engine w/TF 270 MW port heads I'm still in need of the "odds and ends" parts for, I told my builder I'd like 700 Ft Lbs torque over as wide a RPM range as practical, and let the horsepower fall where it will.
