Leave it like it is and drive it , ................If you ever got tired of it , drop in a hot big block w/ 727 and a rear end upgrade and build a sleeper, but I wouldn't go overboard and drop a lot of cash into the body unless I went the cop car route.............but, this is just my opinion and you asked for it........Hey, let us know what you decide to do with it .

Let me suggest a switch to 4.10:1 axle ratio? Not very expensive, doesn't change the stock, well preserved look of the car. Much more urge off the line.

my buddy had a 71 that looked just like that one. I wanted it bad, but he swapped it for a nissan. a 4 door is lighter than a 2 door, and can be just as fast. I saw a tired looking 67 coronet wagon today an got visions of big meats and tinted windows...ok im sick. really if it had some guts I would enjoy driving it. My dad had one of those when i was a kid, I enjoyed riding in that one and it had a trunk that could haul an import.

thats what i did to my wagon bought it for $400 from the orignal owner the car sat in the barn since 1992 they took it out the barn to put a new john deer tractor in the barn then i seen it parked outside would you believe this car has 34,000 orignal miles and is rock soild

I'd leave it and sell it to some one who would keep it as it as.Then I would buy something thats not an all original unmolested or unrestored car and then have my way with it and make it my own....My 2 cents

If it was mine I would leave it as is for a cheap daily driver and put my time and money into the challenger you have.Just my opinion.

It'd be kind of a hassle to convert to a V8,
If it was a V8 I'd do a "Cop Car" clone,
you very could easily invest waay too much time and money doing a V8 swap, and in the end you'd still have an original Slant Six Car,
I'd hop up the Six and put Cop wheels/caps on it, and use it as a daily driver.

Nice survivor. If you don't want to cut the roof off with green and red paint, you could always just chop the top down a few inches and shave the door handles, and I suppose if you really wanted to you could do the green and red still haha

With kids the ages of yours 4-doors make life easier, I'd leave it as is and just cruise with it.

My mom had a gold '71 Satellite when I was a kid,ex gas company car,floor mat and safety glass holder stuck on the dash!The bent six had a (that)sound that I recognized when she was coming home.Compared to other manufacturers 4-door cars of the time,the Mopars were sleeker like the 2-door variants.I really liked that car,my dad always had Buicks.I know you have a '73 'Runner,but when it comes to the '73-'74 Plymouths,I personally prefer the 4-doors and wagons.My vote was to V8 it,360 or otherwise,but that would involve a k-frame swap,or at least conversion mounts if available.Looks like a nice solid car no matter what you do with it.

I've seen a couple /6 turbo cars on ebay the past few months.

Keep some gas mileage and increase the fun and wow factor, and passing ability

drive it and enjoy it. i wouldn't do alot,except maybe some new shoes the extra room and fuel economy will come in handy.
the guy that posted that 4-doors aren't worth dirt,is not far from the truth.
and anybody that scolded him for saying so,is full of it.
you won't pay anything for a 4-door either. it's the market,not personnal opinion. you can have this car,in this condition,and the same car in a 2-door,rusted and missing engine/trans,and the 2-door is still worth 3-4 times more in the eyes of about anybody out there buying.period. why do you think there are so many really nice (of any brand) pre-1980 4-door cars out there for sale and not selling?
if you need a good,reliable,and more classc looking car to drive. these old 4-doors are great. but,if thats not your intentions,then they are just a real good parts car for a 2-door that needs the parts.

If I keep it as is, I am definetely going to beef up the six a bit, I would deck the head
.100, upgrade the cam, and install 1.70 intake and 1.44 exhaust valves as well as port the head, gasket match etc. I am also trying to locate a super six setup to swap the 1 barrel to a 2 barrel. Get some headers from Clifford Performance as well. You can really build up a six with a little ingenuity.

Though this isn't a bad idea I would consider this car a rare surviver. You have a nice, comfortable, rust free sedan. Plus it has the extra door so you don't have to get out and hold your seat forward so someone can fall in the back. Travel in it! Why not just commute with it? If it gets too hot through an after market a/c unit in it. Put a decent stereo and an overdrive transmission to save some fuel. I like it. If it's too slow to get out of it's own way, do like you said above. But I wouldn't get carried away. Remember too: it doesn't have overdrive, so the rear end is geared to compensate and give you a better cruising speed rpm. With an OD auto transmission you can re-gear the rear end. You'll have a car that pulls better, and you get better mpg's. I definately would not touch it cozmetically. You could make a nice sleeper out of it too....but I wouldn't do that, it's in too nice of shape to gut it all out. Old sedans are great cars: You can normally pick up one in great shape for dirt cheap! And now you have a practical, safe, dependable classic car.

Clean it up and drive it. There are alot of people out there that won't boo hoo a four door and accept it for what it is. With a young family the extra doors will come in handy.Wheels and tires will make a big difference. Have FUN with it !!

I dig these cars. I've been looking for one myself, 4 doors and all. If it were mine I'd spend a little dough on some rolling stock. A set of 15x8 steelies and some BFGs would look great. 255/60s, or even 275s in the back, although personally I'd probably opt for 255s, white letters inboard. UNMARKED cop-car. COOOL. I had a 74 Monaco 2 door that people were always trying to get me to paint up like the Bluesmobile. I thought then, and still do, that faked police cars aren't interesting beyond the work that went into them to make them fake police cars. Theres no history. I also thought it showed an appalling lack of creativity, no offense meant to all the Bluesmobile cloners out there, but its been done. Alot. Drive the thing like Jim Rockford til all the hubcaps are gone (yeah, did that. 75 Coronet. WAS a cop car) and have fun. I wouldn't go so far as to call all 4 doors moneypits, but they'll never command the top bucks, no matter what the guys on e-bay think.

Drive it as is... If you really love the car and have the funds to do something cool go ahead! There's no harm in it. It could be a blast. However, converting it to a v8 might be a little more than you bargained for...

As for me, I would rather put my money into something more worthwhile (not that this vehicle isn't) like the challenger (someone above ^^^) mentioned you had.

Leave it as is and drive it. 4doors are still not popular cars. If you hold on to it long enough that may change. I know Station Wagons are getting a pretty good fallowing now. I would leave it as stock as possible. If you feel the need to modify it...Dont bother with small block..It is too much work to switch it off to just put a small block in it. Go with a Torquey 440 with a close to stock cam. I would then use it to pull a travel trailer around and go retro that way. I remember my uncle used to pull an air stream with his 71 Satellite wagon 383 car.

You left out probably the best option: keep the slant-6 but put some hair on its chest so the car will get out of its own way. You'll hear the name "Clifford" come up, but be very careful before you decide to spend any money with Clifford. They have a long and ugly reputation for being a bunch of clowns; see for example here, here, here, here, and here. Much of what they sell is inaccurately described, and a lot of it is not even slightly cost-effective. The good news is that you don't need to go to Clifford to get hot rod parts for slant-6s; there are lots of other, better options. See for example Dutra Duals and header options discussed in this thread and this one, Erson custom cams, HEI ignition upgrade, Mike Jeffreys windage trays, Hurricane intakes, other exotic intakes. Just put an aftermarket A/C kit in it and call it a day. That thing's super clean, looks almost new. They drive nice and are practicle day-to-day family cars. It's not a hot rod, never was nor will it ever be a hot rod so why mess with a good thing.
