No you don't. 89 is recommended, not required. Heck, I've used nothing but 87 in my Hemi Durango for the past 5 yrs and 120K miles later it's still running like a champ.

I've used a mix of 87 and 89. 87 if I don't plan to load it much but 89 if I plan to tow at all..I can get slight knock under heavy loads with 87 so I tend to keep a mix of 87 and 89 in the tank...I guess that'd be 88.

Mine is bone stock. Still has the stock air intake, stock tune. The only difference is it has a magnaflow cat back from the previous owner. I intend to make a cold air intake system for it this year sometime if I ever get around to it. I just can't seem to find the stuff I need available (since I don't want to spend $300 for a piece of tubing).

I would like to hear some testimony from guys running a programmer....any increase in MPG's?

Yeah, me too. The mine has a CAI, not sure if its had any other mods. It does have a good exhaust tone though.

They do have a good tone. I can't resist goosing it a bit thru tunnels and underpasses in the summer with the windows open.
