Cant seem to figure out the right Voltage regulator for my 74 charger 360. What is correct for MY CAR? Parts catalog says 3755970 except 100 amp alternator and 3755850 with 100 amp. Not sure what I have alternator wise... Plus whats the difference between all the different regulators? There's 3874520 and 3438150 etc...

Thanks.

100 amps alts are known on parts catalog as Leece Neville alts. They are HUGE pieces with a very different bracket assembly

This is like the one on the car but I cant say its original to the car... Front says 2095191. Rear says 3438201-10. Googled those numbers and still dont know what amp it is nor what the original is supposed to be...

Thats a 70/71 roundback double field alt. Your should be the same look all arpund but squareback On rear, like this

Those PN are casting numbers. Won't give any info on the specs. Alt PN and specs are usually atached on a metallic tab, which also usually is missed.

Original alts on those days were hard to get 55/60 amps ( except leece neville alts ), which is not enough at iddle, an this is what made fail ALL the wiring and weak spots around of the charging system

One advice, forget about those if you wan't a healthy charging system. Get a mid 80s alt which are available to provide 78/80 amps max output, but around 40-45 at iddle. They look pretty much the similar but a bit wider ( couple of milimeters ). They look like these, with stator hidden by the case

These get a wider stator inside to capture more juice and also get a smaller pulley to make them spin faster, getting more juice at lower RPMs. I know you are working on get the MORE CORRECT PARTS for your 74, but really, if won't be a show car, get a better pieces to save headaches. They are also squareback pieces with just a slight difference on one of the brush isolators

Gotcha. Thanks. Curious on 1 thing.. you say get a mid 80's alt... but I noticed that in the parts catalog they list an 80 amp alt... what would be the difference between that one versus the mid 80's 80 amp?

78 or 80 amps is the same one actually. Just be sure trying to get one of those if you want to be happy and relaxed. And pay attention to some upgrades to the alt wiring up to ammeter to save the bulkhead terminals weakness. Will post later about that.

And about the regulator... I never have cared about as far works. I got one of those repro Mopar regulators with yellow prints and have worked like a champ with the 80 amps alt I'm running. I can't tell if there is really a difference inside between diff PNs getting upgrades or just about supersedes numbers. I have known the newer Mopar replacements got upgrades inside from the original ones back in the years, but can't really tell it

Sorry, its actually an 86 AMP double pulley listed. #3755585.

As far as the Regulator... At least now I know physically what its SUPPOSED to look like... Based on this pic Im looking for one like the first picture... Its the correct "YELLOW" lettering and the red line shows a zig zag profile on the housing... The 2nd pic the lettering is wrong color but the housing profile is right... The 3rd one is what is on the car.. You can see that the housing profile is wrong.. it goes straight across instead of zig zag like the first 2...

I Know its trivial but for me i just want it to either be the exact one thats supposed to be there... or at least "LOOK" like the original even if the part number is different...

3755970 is the one i want... but if I cant find it then even if I find a 3438150 with a 74 date code I'll be happy.

I appreciate the help.

As far I know Yellow lettering should be the correct factory look, while white lettering I think were original replacements someday in the past. There are two diff pn for the yellow lettering as far I recall with just TWO manufacturing dates one on each pn regulator, emulating like was made on those days ( remember they are for resto purpouse ). I was over that when I bought my unit, but can't recall which are the dates used on these resto units.

The chromed one is an aftermarket replacement, ALTHOUGH I think Mopar provided some of those on later years, of course correctly labeled, not in blank

Wow! If really puts 86 amps is a good unit!
