whats the deal on this high $ air cleaner?

Not sure, it's not like it is a real un touched one that is still in the box. I think some people (chevy guys) have just lost their freakin minds and think that now that mopar is more popular worldwide and the price of everything is rising fast they can make a quick buck without anyone noticing lol you can get a repop six pack for less lol

Pretty hard to find part as it's generally found on the 383 Formula S A body. And the pricing?? It's all relative. If someone who has that 68 383 S Barracuda 4 spd convertible, and the only thing standing in the way of the big money auction sale is that air cleaner, they will pay it and more. Once again separating the hobbyists and flippers one high priced part at a time.

Yes you can ask any crazy amount for anything.. You never know when you may find that one guy with more money than they need. Not me...

Agreed.

If it's a part someone really needs, especially if it's really hard to find,
they will pay some extortion or ransom/high price for said part...

I remember seeing recently, an OE 69.5 6bbl Air Cleaner base for an A12 car for like $1500,
that wasn't even perfect {when you can get a replica/reproduction for 10%-20% of that price},
but if your doing a 100% OEM correct "full on" restoration, for show points,
then some people {but not me "usually"} will succumb to such ridiculous extortion/high prices...

opinions will vary vastly, I'm sure...

They were also found on '68 Plymouth Sport Suburan station wagons that had 383's 4bbls w/ A/C. Ask me how I know. *LOL*

But for that price I may just sell mine. ;)

My 67 R/T had one of those. I had to use a road runner base under it to fit the bigger AVS carb. It was loud.
