In Drivers Ed I actually got into trouble with the teacher/instructor when he asked me to 'demonstrate' driving through the cones. When I got out of the car afterwards the teacher barked at me to sit down on the curb and "don't move". I whispered to someone what was wrong and was told the tires were squealing as I whipped back & forth through the cones. I swear I couldn't hear them and honestly thought I'd done good. Oh well, not everyone gets to slalom a 75 Roadrunner!Bought one new, better than a Monte Carlo I suppose. I wished I had been able to afford one in 74 though. Good driving car actually and the 400 was as good as anything in it's day.

My friend is building that exact car right now. I am building this one.
I’ll always like my Chargers better but if anyone has never ever seen a purple AAR in person they are absolutely beautiful. I’d take one over a 71 Cuda in a heart beat.very nice but I'mView attachment 1752595 kinda found of Purple
Don't know if anyone else has replied to this fact but if you got a 79 with single headlights, they were round and only the ones with quads got the rectangle ones. I had 4 79's back then and two had the quads.....and didn't mind having the quads at all. For some reason I kept finding 79's for cheap lolMy typical luck - a day late and a dollar short!
I really like the 78s with the round headlights!
At 73 now, I'm not seeing my 66 Belvedere going back together anytime soon if at allBefore I get so old they take my license away........................................ A Poly would be perfect. I don't need or want anything bigger than a 383. Just a nice driver, not a Maxie or 512 needed to have fun.

The story behind my 71 started in 85....went to look at it after it was advertised in one of the Houston papers but walked away from it because the interior was sorta ragged out and the transmission didn't shift all that well and the price was 3500. I offered 2500 and the guy turned it down. The 340 was pretty strong though as it was a fresh rebuild. I saved the ad and put it in my desk drawer. A year later I was cleaning out my desk and found the ad and thought, why not try and the guy still had it. Now it had a rebuilt trans and about 300 more miles so I went and looked again and made the deal for 2500. Brought it home that day and had fun with it for the next 15 or so years! Made some changes to it and it turned out to be a really nice handling car plus it would run high 13's and was the best 'donut' car I ever had! It was a 50 footer (maybe less lol) but wasn't afraid to drive it anywhere. The downside (at least back then) was it was SassyGrass with the white billboards but that turned out to be a plus and the SassyGrass grew on me and since there weren't that many of them around just made it better.
What did your previous Cuda have in it? Never thought a 340 could be so much fun until I had one. You might read my post just above. After all, the 340 was called 'the baby Hemi' lol. I drove a 70 Hemi Cuda that belonged to someone else and it felt nose heavy plus it was a bit of a dog probably due to poor tuning. My 340 car was really sweet even when it was 15 years old! The engine and trans were rebuilt but everything else on the car looked stock including the front and rear sway bar bushings.I have never wanted a 71 Cuda. This was one of my dream cars until I owned it. The 71 Hemi R/T that i replaced it with was a much better car in all aspects.

Sheldon's Purple 70 was a Hemicuda.... I think he doesn't like how harsh the performance E bodies ride.. I personally think with the proper changes they ride & handle pretty darn well....At 73 now, I'm not seeing my 66 Belvedere going back together anytime soon if at all

Learn something every day! I always thought the quads were all 79's and the rounds were 78's. Is there any other way to tell the two years apart?Don't know if anyone else has replied to this fact but if you got a 79 with single headlights, they were round and only the ones with quads got the rectangle ones. If there is, I don't know about it lol but I do know the core support is different between the trucks with rounds and squares. The core supports do interchange if one wants the quads but also have to swap out the wiring for them. Btw, the quad setup was an option for the 79 and iirc, 1980 too or maybe the 80 trucks only came with quads?Learn something every day! The hood is different. The 78 is scalloped, the 79 is flat I believe.Learn something every day! I always thought the quads were all 79's and the rounds were 78's. Is there any other way to tell the two years apart?
