When Is Your First Day To Mow The Lawn?

What’s the thought process behind scalping that low, I’d think it would do more harm than good.

The growth occurs up and out. Keeping it cut low encourages outward growth of the stolons. It is common Bermuda and grows pretty tall unlike the finer varieties bred for golf courses and manicured lawns. I used to mow it about 3 inches tall but it needs to spread out to fill those bare spots caused by weeds/disease.

My grass and pasture grass IS growing, greening up in the warm rain today. The livestock have been actually grazing for a few days now. They are still eating the hay too, so this is just them getting at the tender sweet new grass...I still have about 30 bales of hay in the loft too. So it's all good.

I know livestock prefers fresh grass over hay. But I've always wondered how they know the grass is sweet?

I just checked the drive belt, sparky thingy, changed oil and air filter and fixin to sharpen the blade as soon as I drink this cheap bier. Then I'll be mowin.

I gotta get one of them new fangled self propelled mowers.

I had better be at least two months away from cutting grass...

that's funny, I wish you were right! once it starts it's about 12hrs. a week for me,cutting,trimming. but first I have to get everything cleaned up which takes a month! 42 cottages at the resort and an acre at home!

I'm about the same time wise.. 2000 x 100 runway and an additional 8 or more acres covered in grass, thank God the other 120+ is forest!

hope you have at least a 72" deck, I had one but coudn't get around the cottages very good so went to a 54". I miss it when doing the open areas but I don't miss the old 430 deere was like driving a long nose pete around the buildings

that a sickle mower with a guard over it, nice, I need a 6' to put on the back of the 135 ferguson to cut around the waste lagoon! there hard to find for a decent price! It only needs cutting twice a year so I try to catch the guy cutting the sides of the road and have him come in and do it for $100.

Yesterday. Rain today. Will have to mow again Sun.

Maybe next week if it doesn't rain till then. Still waiting for the yard to dry out. Need to get out there and pickup the winter debris first away before the grass covers it up. I can get the tractor and trailer threw some mud if need be.
