Putting my 413 together just for a street engine No racing.
Reading up on choosing a street cam and came across the Whiplash cam by Hughes.
Anyone have input on this cam?

I got the Hughes Whiplash Cam for the 440. I gotta say it sounds real good. Here's video I sent them that they put on their website, its down towards the bottom. Its a 440 w/ 2500 stall and 4.11's out back. Runs 13.30's @ 100 MPH. The block is a 78 440 out of a motorhome with the 906 heads, it has about 8.5 to 1 compression.

I don't think I've ever heard a mild street cam sound that good since the old 509's. Very nice.

I too have one in a 1977 -.030 over- 440 about 8.5 to 1 compression. Haven't had it on the street yet but in the garage it sounds wicked. If you google YouTUbe whiplash cam they have some good examples of how they sound.

I had my first one go flat. Bought a second one & have never been very happy with it. I'd use anything else before buying another one. To date purple shaft has worked best for me .

I really hate to say but it was the first cam out of many installs of solid, hyd, and roller that I ever lost. whiplash disintegrated, used all their parts and lubes , ruined my engine . not lookin for any arguments, just saying.

Thanks guys,
Going with mrlperformance when I get all my ducks in a row.

Thanks

Wow that is a sexy sounding cam! Anyone know if the quality has improved since the above couple that died?

OR anyone know of another cam that sounds as good that's streetable?

I'm after a good sounding cam, with a bit of performance but still street/cruiseable... I've got a pretty mild 440 at the moment (edel intake, 650vac sec, hooker 1 7/8" manifolds), looking to make it more ballsy. Eventually want to go ali heads (440s or Edel), 6-pack intake. Cam and valve train I haven't really thought to much about just yet. Still getting it on road.
