Bingo. I flew on those a couple of times - Air Canada (still Trans Canada Airlines back then) offered 30 minute excursion tours of the Vancouver area for a few bucks back in the early '60's and my dad and Uncle took me for rides. TCA bought 35 Viscounts from Vickers with the 1,600 hp. Rolls Royce Dart turboprops.

TCA (and after June 1964 Air Canada) also had 23 of the successor - the Vanguard. Somewhat overpowered with its Rolls Royce Tyne 5,500 hp engines, it could hit 425 mph. and was claimed to maintain 10,000 foot cruise on one engine.

While Air Canada used the Vickers Vanguard and Viscount as their turbo-prop liners, rival Canadian Pacific Airlines went with the Bristol Britannia.

This 1962 shot was from one of my dad's slides. My grandmother (gray hat) is leaving back to Germany after a visit. The Vancouver International Airport was rather small at the time, with no internal boarding access for airplanes. A nice shot of the Proteus engine size.

Last flight of this McDonnell Douglas DC9-32, #N681AL; October 2013. It's now at the Castle Air Museum here in town.
