With all these “what is best” posts. It’s all ready been done. In October 1944, the US Navy had a fly off, inviting company test pilots and combat pilots to PAX River to actually fly the airplanes, then evaluate and compile the results. Note, it was heavily weighted with USN, Chance Vought and Grumman pilots. And, since no one Fighter is best at every mission, they broke it down into categories as you should, defining mission. The Corsair may have been the best carrier based fighter in the elements but it was not the best carrier aircraft.
