Congrats to the Royal Air Force- 4/1/1918. And now for a 225hp diesel circa 1931

And maybe ‘ski’ can add to this- on the outskirts of Edwards.

THANKYOU Bladecutter! I was waiting for someone to notice, thought it would be you. I deliberately posted it the day after April 1st to make it less obvious. :)

There were, of course, no Mig-21s in service in Canada. But there was a good spoof article on it a few years ago. http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageN...erican-friendship--2011-APRIL-FOOLS-HOAX.aspx
Great article Photon. News to me, I had no idea. I like the name given to the Birds, "Strat" & the reason for the coinage.
BTW, I'm watching the movie "Arrow" again right now. Fired it up last night & will watch the rest a bit later today. What a shame what happened to the CF-105.

Another day in history...this date in 1962 was the last time the RCAF had a PBY-5A Canso in the air for a Squadron 162 reunion. They were used for search and rescue after WWII.

Here is that BOMARC site now. After they closed down the BOMARC program, they locked the gates and walked away. I’ve been out there on official business in the mid-1990s and it looked like it had been the scene of a war battle. All of the furniture and equipment (except the missiles) were still there and everything was bullet ridden. I mean EVERYTHING!!! apparently local hunters got inside and used the abandoned buildings and equipment as targets to shoot at. It was pretty eerie walking around there. The contaminated ground was covered in concrete in the 1960s after they cleaned up what they could. One of the interlopers wrote “Danger, mutants are here!” On the concrete encased ground. That was pretty funny. The last round of cleanup removed all that ground covering concrete. Here is what the incident bunker site looks like now:

The incident bunker was completely removed and the above ground structures of the bunkers on either side of it have been demolished too.
