Once upon a time, Beechcraft decided to make a successor to their popular King Air. Working with Burt Rutan, they came up with the Beechcraft Starship, a carbon fiber twin turboprop canard design. It didn't sell particularly well in the 1990s, only 53 were built. And not all of them were sold and used - some were eventually cannibalized to fix earlier ones. What to do...well Beechcraft ended up offering them as leased aircraft instead. And finally, looking at the costs of maintaining the fleet, they broke up and destroyed all that they had control of. There are a few in museums, and about five are in private hands and still flyable.

In need of more power to tow gliders, the He-111Z was two 111s together with a fifth engine. Apparently pilots found that it flew well.
