Did a dropped bomb hit that plane? If so, it mkes you wonder how many other times that happened.

I remember seeing a B-26 with one of the engines blown off, and the engine was still running. And a B-17 that hat been hit in the noise, the bombardier,navigator,pilot,copilot, and probably top turret gunner all killed. The plane kept flying for a short distance before falling. Damn brave men.

I've read that it was originally attributed to a bomb, but later analysis showed that it was hit by flak. Sorry, I don't have a source/link.

This was Mission 358 to Berlin, May 19th 1944. The lower B-17G was "Miss Donna Mae II " (42-31540) 331BS / 94BG, struck by a 1,000 lb bomb from the B-17 above it.

During the subsequent spin a wing came off, needless to say no-one got out.
