After the end of WWII, Switzerland decided that they would update their airforce fleet with jet powered fighters. Designed and constructed in their country, they came up with a four engined prototype. It didn't go into production, but they did learn a lot about aerodynamics and engineering from it. The EFW N-20 Aiguillon. (Stinger) Designed in the late 1940s, it looks modern. Development was cancelled in 1952.

A test variant of the Vickers Viscount, the Vickers 663 had its first flight 70 years ago tomorrow (March 15 1950). The type entered service not with jet power, but with four turbo-props.
