The Bristol 188 was an interesting research aircraft built in Britain. With prototypes ordered up in 1953, this plane was designed to explore Mach 3 heat build up on airframes. Unfortunately the planned engines never arrived and, underpowered, it topped out at Mach 1.88 (which was a coincidence).

The last of American Airlines MD-80's at the boneyard in Roswell, NM

That looks like a scene from 'Tora, Tora, Tora' which I remember my dad taking me to watch when it came out in 1970. Most of those Warhawks on the ground were fiberglass replicas, while most of the Japanese planes were converted T6 Texans and Vultee BT-13s as there were no flyable Japanese WWII fighters at the time. Two actual flying P-40s were used in the film though.
 
Zero pilots feared the F6F more than anything. Heavily armored and could outmaneuver the Zero.
