Ju 287. Design efforts began in 1943 and, on 16 August 1944, the aircraft made its maiden flight. The Ju 287V-1 experimental prototype was fitted with four Jumo 004B turbojet engines with 900 kg thrust each; two were placed on either side of the fuselage and two were on pylons under the wings

That plane was built of bit and pieces. The nose wheels are from a B-24 Liberator that was shot down.

That cnn article differs from some others I've read. The plane had already pulled over 3 gs in a climb, it was when going into a negative g that the passenger panicked. He wasn't told the handle he was holding was for ejection. Also, the pilot had been instructed not to exceed +3 g and zero negative G which he exceeded.

The Rafale is designed to have the other seat eject when one goes, on the assumption that the problem must be serious for someone to eject in the first place. On this flight, the pilot seat failed to eject and he landed safely, fleeing the aircraft as soon as he was stopped in case the seat blew off. Personnel stayed clear of the aircraft for 24 hours to be sure the seat was safe to approach.

This was being investigated; French Rafale jets were grounded until March 30.
