must disagree vehemently.
The other day I was busier than a dog with two weenies and didn't finish my post, I just hit reply and walked away. Today I'll finish.
Of course people own long guns for hunting and one, if enjoyed, can lead to many, I've had many. Hand guns are only good for two things: practicing to protect or killing to protect, again, I've had my share.
I have a thing that I've done my whole life, if one is good, two or six is better. That been true for cars also, but new cars or cars a few years old mostly. It's been a problem and the reason for downsizing. The first few lines of my original post were told to me by my nephew, after his father died in 1992 and he would be 83 now. It was told to him by a physiatrist he needed after the passing. This is the rest of the story and for many reasons I will not get into the whole story.
Have you ever dealt with hundreds of people looking for a huge piece of history.
My brother in law, at one point, had one of the largest privately held collection of military memorabilia, anywhere. This was relayed to me by the two sellers we used, who help my brother in law precure 90 percent of the thousands of pieces in his collection. He started his collection in the early 50's when he was very young, he had this thing that was weird for someone that young. He had things you could only get back then because no one really cared. Many of these were brought home as souvenirs by returning soldiers. Today, they'd put you in a 5x9 for some of what he had, have you ever shot a Thompson submachine gun, enough said. He had about 350 long guns and about 200 handguns from every war, every country, starting with the Civil War to the Vietnam War and 1000 to 5000 rounds for each weapon. Including patches, weird stuff like, German paratroopers gravity knife, American, unauthorised paratroopers sawed off shotgun used coming down and was a throw away, pins, medals, clothing of so many branches of so many armies it was crazy. Every German officers dress hat, and dress daggers, personally inscribed by jewelers for these military officials, officially frowned upon by the military, from Generals to the fire chiefs, one offs. Rommel's actual battle flag, each division had two, one was for battle and the other was for official use, one cotton and the other silk. The silver SS serving tray used by Hitler for his official parties, ( It was found in Arizona being used by a wife to serve sandwiches on for her husband's poker nights years ago. I have no idea how they got it and I didn't want to know). His house was full of stuff. Museums were in line for things like Rommel's battle flag. This collection was extensive and a TON of money went into it, back then. I was asked to help dispose of this mess after he died and it tooks weeks to categorize all of it. This stuff was sold to private parties I didn't know and didn't want to know!! This insane underworld, back then, was incredible and hungry for it. This stuff went to every corner of the world, UNBELIEVABLE!! You don't have to believe any of this, but is this a collector or an obsession. By the way, the money made from this stuff was stupid. In closing, my nephew now lives somewhere in Colorado.
I was born a tinkerer and always will be and I don't care what it is, I'll tinker with it. I think you all know that about me by now.
