Car is a 68 Charger with factory 3 speed wiper motor. The wipers have not been operated for at least 20 years, however, I had the motor rebuilt (Jules did the work) before I reinstalled on the car many years ago. Currently dash is out to facilitate other maintenance so I thought this would be a good time to check wipers for correct operation. I followed FSM procedure for motor test:
Disconnect motor leads at bulkhead disconnect
Connect jumper wire from battery positive terminal to brown and red leads in bulkhead disconnect
Connect second jumper from the green lead to ground - (I connected directly to battery negative terminal)
Motor would not operate.
During the test battery positive cable was connected to battery but negative cable was not. I connected negative cable to battery and motor worked properly.
I know that DC power needs a continues circuit to operate. That's why I used the battery negative terminal as ground for the test. Power came in from disconnected bulkhead connector terminals E and F. How come the power did not return to the battery from terminal G - the ground terminal?
What am I missing here?
