My stock rebuild is not quite a simple as I hoped. Long story but I seem to be obsessing over these rocker arms. Are the stretched out or is this normal? Seems like a lot of clearance on the shaft and the hole looks oblong. 67 440 with 57k miles, can't image they're worn out but who knows.

only three surfaces are important
1 valve contact
2 surface to rocker shaft
3 push rod socket
the opening above the shaft is normal

Thx. Thought I was being a paranoid. I'll run'em.

Stamped rockers are all like that. There's nothing wrong with them unless the tips are worn (they get grooves from the valve tips) and they can wear at the pushrod cup and the surface that rides on the shaft. Usually the tips are the issue.

I look for round holes and material on edge of hole is blunt not sharp from wear as in pic. They will walk on shaft at 7000.

On those stamped steel rockers, usual wear is on the tip surface, that rides the valve tip. If not too bad, use a stone to dress the surface, and carry on...

Thx. They are installed and ready for another 50 years.
