lol no, but yeah, it's fine, nothing damaged, it was a slow, slow, slow fall, and luckily there was a cherry picker under the front that stopped the whole thing from going all the way to the ground

yea its tapered that's my new problem motor was done in 93 it had a 440 which was toast so I got a donor from a machine shop and I m not sure of motor year gonna have to get numbers and decode hopefully after another snowfall !!!!
but getting to the root of the problem was bugging me like crazy so I pulled other lifter and found to my surprise which almost knocked me on my *** was that the jerk had put in a taller lifter so after composing myself I took others out 7 were the same height and the problem one is taller unreal I never in my life have seen this still in amazement a different lifter wow I guess it got tired of being the oddman out ,crazy that it took so long been a mech for long still in shock

that would explain it. The pushrod looks like the newer 70's 440. Back to basics, what idiot would mismatch lifters? I would Inspect the cam for wear, I had a 383 toasted because of a lack of zinc. the lifter surface can turn to a powder, and get into everything.

At least you got to the bottom of it! I punched an exhaust rocker on a 360 years ago....

make sure you put some good lube in there when you change lifters the cam and the lifters will need a bit of a break in to get seated to each other. glad you found the issue.

Unreal is 100 % true and now I'm being told by the motor heads here at work that that wouldn't cause smoke after warm up ...but # 8 was the hole that was oil fould and my compressions 125 one guy said oil ring broken oil seeping from underneath .....guess I have to fix top end before I condemn lower end

I am a worry wart, but the shavings from the lifter/cam got in the oil, and scratched the bores,I had to re-hone, flush the engine, and basically redo the engine. It smoked like that too. I got no notice. In my case, the machine shop could actually see and feel the
powder residue. I had 1,000 miles on that engine. No more MP cams for me. I went comp cam the next time,and lots of Zinc.

Well cut filter found a fair amount of specs hopefully it didn't do major damage hopefully filter caught most if it ....have a question anyone seen these pushrods....I never have come across this type

Those don't look right. The ball end of the pushrod should nearly conform to the receiving cup in the rocker and should be a semi spherical end that matches to the outside diameter of the pushrod. I don't know what those came from.

Your pushrod should look more like this on the end with a stock rocker

I'm getting the shakes, but they look like the type I put in a 454 chevy after a blown head gasket job. what a piece of junk that engine was. Certainly not from one of those, maybe a cheap aftermarket?

Making me laugh and worry !!! Mon. I measured these today 8.630 so I'm gonna trash these odd looking lifters and go with new stock rocker and new tappets and ball / ball end pushrods, don't want to tear out cam being the lifters look like there wearing normally even the oddball lifter ... Just need to decode engine serial # to see what I'm dealing with engine/ head wise

post the casting numbers, and the date code on the side. we'll figure it out. you may have a vin on the passenger side as well,,,I would apply a good amount of oil on the camshaft and lifters with lots of zinc. once assembled, crank it over without plugs for a bit. then put In the plugs and go!

The push rods in my 67 318 have that taper on the lifter end if they were reversed it would slowly wear through

59/71 b 383 I've read looked for more numbers same stamp other side only saw ND under numbers next to LL no #s near dis. thinking its a guess at this point pushrod size now
