Had picked up a set of re-chromed bumpers for my 64 Sport Fury. Decided time to mount up the rear one. 'Should' have been a slap on deal...hell no.
Can anyone with a 64 Savoy, Belvedere, Fury, or Sport Fury measure the distance on one of the inner mount bolts, to the outer. Either side.

Checked in my 64 parts book to see if any other Plymouths used that rear bumper, including C-body cars. Far as I can tell, no, only those said B-body cars.

Deal is, mounted up the four brackets to the frame, then the bumper. Inner holes on the bumper are good. Both outer holes no. Those outer holes are over an inch outside the end of the outer brackets! What the hell.

No, brackets are not bent. Pulled them years ago, just blasted and painted 'em.

That measurement would at least help, to figure what I'm looking at. Unless there's something else I don't know.

I don't have any insight but I just put my rear back on my 63 Savoy which I took off and fought with that SOB for a couple hours before it went back on. Same brackets and same bumper except the brackets were powder coated.
I will be watching to see what other say about mounting there rear bumper.

Hear that, sandbagger! Something so damn simple.

13 3/4" from bolt hole to hole, each side. Hoping somebody can say yes, or no.
Don't remember if rears are alike on 63s, or even 65s. Not in the mood to do a bunch of hunting right now. Slightly pissed.

Thinking about it...to make this thing go together, where the two brackets (each side) bolt up side by side, against the frame. I would have to put something like a 1" spacer between the brackets! No wonder I can't see straight.

I had the same problem! 63 & 64 had different spacing on the bumper holes! Had to get different brackets! I exchanged my bumper instead of having mine redone! which caused the problem!

That figures. So, looking like I've got a 63 rear bumper?

Anybody with a tape measure???

1963 and 1965 use the same bumpers and brackets ,1964 uses different bumper and brackets .easiest thing to do is find a set of 63 or 65 brackets ,unless you are using original rear 64 guards those fit in front of taillights on 64s unlike the 63 and 65 .

Much appreciated, guys! Nothing like good info.

Didn't know the 65 bit. Anyway, swap it for a 64 bumper, first part of October. Another gd hour and a half drive. Maybe I'll be cooled off by then.

Miller is that 1 1/2 each way...I hope not.
My bumper also measures the 13 3/4.
Can someone post pics of the difference between the 63/65 brackets and the 64 brackets?

My 63 Fury measures 13 3/4" between the bracket bolts on each side.

Only guessing, but between the brackets, and years, probably look alike...just like the bumpers themselves. Yes, Dave, same measurement on the rear bumper I have now...13 3/4". As said, for the 64, that bumper in place both outer holes are more than an inch outside the end of the brackets.
Wouldn't do much good trying to measure the brackets themselves, since slotted holes, minor variations. Would have to measure holes in the bumper itself, to be right. Thinking anywhere between 12 - 12 1/2", between inner and outer holes.

Have NO idea why the change-up, between the years, but seems that's the way it is.
And to really help out, since things were in a bind, with me trying to mount the damn thing...pulling it, bolt snapped out, and chipped my paint on one end.

Ditto on the 63-65 bumper thing. I ran a 64 bumper for a few years then located a good 63 for my 65 satellite. Dimensions they have given are accurate. Just finished measuring both. 63-65 13 3/4, 64 12 1/4 to 12 1/2

I have a 64 Polara under reconstruction but the rear bumper brackets are still on her. I'll be glad to take measurements this evening if it will help?

With the numbers KarNut46 gives, don't think it will be needed...but, thanks, anyway!!

Sure helps. Old dog CAN learn new tricks. Just gotta get my hands on the right part, and keep my cool.

Long time coming. Had to scrape for the damn things. Ha, wrong one sure didn't help. Kinda that way.

Last set I had re-chromed...$200 for both.

But, who knows, I might even live that long. Good luck on your build, Steve!

A Dodge has different rear bumper and brackets than a Plymouth. To review, 63 and 65 Plymouth use the same rear bumper. 64 is a one year bumper. On a Dodge, 64 and 65 use the same rear bumper.

KarNut46...any chance you still have that 64 rear bumper? And if so, if it gets to that point, any chance of a swap?

The Bumper Shop is the outfit I'm dealing with, out of LA. Yeah, I know, personal problem, since I did not know the difs between the bumpers. With a phone call, was set-up to exchange for a 64 rear, Oct. 2 at the Good Guys (???) show, Texas Motor Speedway.
Anybody go? Anybody see a pure dumbass carrying a wrapped bumper on his shoulder for about an hour. That was after an hour and a half drive to get there, and paying $20 just to go through the damn gate.
After that time passed, finally found out...the Bumper Shop had cancelled the day before! Going to send a email today, probably call Monday. As far as I'm concerned, now they can ship the damn thing to me, or my money...then I'll ship their's back to 'em.

The bumper thing...if they are going to deal with them...they should know the ins and outs on 'em. Evil thoughts...if they DID know, pawning off, instead of handing over the harder-to-find 64.

Crap! I'm getting pissed all over again.
