Yankee Express RestoMod Project

Moved on to the side scoops today because I had an idea of how to accomplish getting the filler to go where I wanted/ needed it to. I placed a rectangle of hard plastic inside the quarter against the back of the opening and wedged it in place by putting a big sponge against it and the inner panel. Then I went to the outside and put the filler on. Let it dry to about 80% and the plastic peels right off the back leaving a flat surface to apply the Stainless Steel mesh to. Then carved and sanded the opening to my satisfaction. It's ready for final sanding and touch up but I got the outline and edge contours where I wanted them. So, that worked and now I can do the rest of them the same way. I have been contemplating this for months. off and on. Finally figured out how. lol.

I see you've caught up, my friend. How is your journey progressing these days? Hope that you and yours are well. Give that dog a treat for me.
It's good to catch up. You're making the kind of steady progress that gets a project done, and I'm working on the same. Summer is here, and I'm sweating it out in the shop, with Harry right alongside.

Great! Always look forward to your posts of your progress on the amazing car you are building.

I' had another idea. lol. I'll take a piece of cardboard and stick behind the one that's done and trace the outline of the opening. Use that to get the one below it exactly the same shape/profile. Just keep trimming and sanding till it matches.

Fathers Day gift....to hook up the passenger side pop up filler...as is represented in this picture. I'll weld in another short pipe through the trunk lift strut and an elbow hose on each end.

The replacement tail extensions arrived today. Thank you hemidon1, and went on perfectly, almost. I have to do a tiny amount of trimming in a few places, blue circles and cut the body out to match the mounting face of the tail light opening behind the extension. Then do some fiber glassing work. I hate to cut up perfect extensions but, it is what it is.

Might go well in a couple of spots...
Valve covers.
right side of grill.
center of the seat topper between the front buckets.
front fender behind front wheel well opening.
center of tail lights clear back up lens.
dash center wood grain panel to the right end.
rear face of the fuel cell centered.
Any of these would be a likely spot for such a nice looking emblem. maybe even put a thin chrome spear through the space in-between the top and bottom halves.

Using expanding foam to fill the voids behind the extension and on the end in the open space. I should be able to trim and then overlay with stretched speaker fabric and soak that with resin to harden. Can add a little fiberglass cloth to strengthen.

Installed the second fill neck into the fuel cell.

So, I did the other side. I also looked up the patent drawings of the KINDIGIT spoon handle shaved handle . It comes along with every other flush handle mechanism ever invented and patented, including the 69 Grand Prix one. Very informative...

Decided that I am at least as smart as the Kindig guys. I'm making my own flush pull handles out of the stock handles and gear. It should work out fine. Also put the metal section into the right Extension and applied more expanding foam to lock it in place. Letting it dry overnight. The left side has it's first coat of filler.
