now see,if they had just made those as well as the 4 doors,
they could have sold millions.
imagine that,a direct competitor to the mustang and camaro.

my main point was,we would have had a Lot more next gen people interested in these cars if they had been selling the 2 door version Next to the 4 door.
think about it,what did mopar have to offer?
see what i mean?

Is the Challenger not a Mustang and Camaro competitor?
tough question.
its got the juice now with the hemis and all, but,it is a big heavy car.
do they haul? yes,but they are expensive too.
meanwhile 4 door chargers and 300s are everywheres
so are mustangs and camaros,
all kinds of versions that younger gen are still buying and fixing up.

looking at the 2 door concept,
it just seems like that would have been more of a direct challenge and weight class for the crapmaro and the rustang.
i think ma mopar missed a lot of sales opportunities there.

I don’t think it makes a drastic difference. The “gotta have a 2 door” crowd is gonna gravitate towards the Challenger and those that need the versatility of a 4 door or just like the styling will get a Charger. They both weigh nearly the same.

you are assuming all these people will Want a big heavy slabsided challenger.
whereas im being realistic and comparing the numbers who Have bought mustangs and camaros and will continue to do so.

lets ask this question instead.
what is dodge going to rely on for the future to keep buyers interested?
the ancient front engine rear wheel drive system?
yet another version of the same car.....

meanwhile,
the next corvette is mid engine and looks more like a ferrari or a lambo, but it IS next gen.

Well how about a Dodge Charger UTE

And The Chargamino

Here are some pictures from Carlisle a few years ago, where MOPAR had some factory concept cars onsite.
But first...
I had a 71 Charger R/T, the first drawing of the "new" Charger I saw before production was a TWO DOOR, and I was THRILLED that Mopar was bringing the Charger back.
I really don't like 4 door cars, and I really didn't like the 4 door Charger, at all. The designers have made changes that "hide" the back doors some, and that helps, and I understand from a marketing and volume of sales perspective why the Charger came back as a 4 door.
Still, I'd love to see a 2 door version!
The back doors on this 1999 prototype are pretty well hidden:

Kinda looks like a Viper and a Intrepid had incestual sex.
