Your most dependable vehicle.....Mopar or not

2001 Pontiac Sunfire

Wife bought brand new

I sold it for scrap metal with just under 300,000 miles on it four years ago

Factory Manual Trans and Clutch was never touched - Engine Internally was never touched other then Spark Plugs - Wires - Water Pump - Belt

Damn thing was my go to work every day , and it sat outside in the WI Winters - It wouldn’t die

Well - Damn WI Rust

Rick Ehrenberg always touts the Mopar engineering.
I can't argue against it but the other automakers weren't all idiots. I had a '76 Camaro that was reliable despite ME messing with it.
Coil spring front suspension with front steer linkage, stud mounted rocker arms, Saginaw 4 speed.....while Rick brags about torsion bars, shaft mounted rocker arms and the famous 833 4 speed. My Chevy was reliable.

Tough call for me. All my stuff has been reliable over the decades, ever since I stopped driving $500
cars everyday anyways.

Best and most reliable car of all time for me? 1989 Ford Mustang LX Sport 5.0.
250k miles, original clutch - hell, original everything. Built like a....well, like a Mopar.
Indestructible.

Most reliable in the fleet now? All of them. Never left me stranded. Even Fred.
2004 Ram SLT 4x4 hemi; 2012 Charger R/T. 1968 Plymouth GTX (Fred).
All stone reliable - even the two with the supposedly "defective" late model hemi engines.

Holy crap! Def got your money’s worth!

Crazy thing is these trucks have a sort of cult following, I've had a couple guys in the last six months offer me within $500 of what I paid for it....

Guessing the body must be in good shape. The engine amazes me with that many miles. Although, I’ve always kept up with the oil changes and never had an issues with any engine I’ve had.

only "dent" is more like someone leaned on it hard... It's about 3"x4" & less than 1/4" deep... I needs paint but it needed paint in 89... I sprayed the hood & roof with hotrod black twenty years ago.. It's got the 22RE which are well known for commonly going 3-400K & this one is still going strong...

I haven't had a MOPAR as a daily driver in forever. They really lost me when the K crap came out. My 96 Bronco had 254k when I sold it. Had all original driveline. Ran great, drove great. Only did maintenance items. Sold it cause I couldn't afford the gas anymore. My Veracruz has 198k. Got it with a starter engagement issue - changed the ignition switch, done. Been a good dog/parts hauler. V6, good power and decent on gas. I've kept the wife in Toyota's for ever. Her current one has 179k, no oil loss between changes. I've been in the mood to upgrade the daily drivers but (even with a dealers license) prices are way too high. I could buy new, but the depreciation hit is worse than an Indian Casino.

The older mopars I've had over the years have been very reliable, but the '04 Dakota 4.7 engine has been virtually trouble free for nearly 160k. Other than basic maintenance it still has all factory installed components. Had to replace the 545RFE this year but saved a lot doing it myself. Zero body rust or paint fade/loss since new, even though it was never garaged. Amazing.

I've had a lot of reliable vehicles over the years, but In terms of years and total miles driven, i have to say that my 71 Satellite with the 318 in it never left me stranded. Close to 250,000 miles, ran smooth up until the time I took it out of the car. I thought I should hang on to the motor. So it sits, but I give it a couple of turns every so often. I remember back to breaking it in. Drove 50 to 55 mph only for the first 500 miles. Father in law was in the car with me and he said it's time to open her up. Put it in second gear (auto trans) and I floored it I started to let up around 75 or so. He put his big foot over and pushed the gas peddle. I guess after that she was broke in.

2010 Hyundai Elantra Blue. 148,000 miles and has never failed me. Still runs like a top and everything works. Only things that needed to be replaced so far is the oil pan. Not including normal wear out parts I mean. I hardly eve wash it or vac out the insides. I did put new struts on it a few years ago. Very good all around car.

Bought this for my daughter from a friend. It had 42 thousand on it, sold it with a 154 thousand and never turned a wrench on it, except plugs once. I did put a set of newer jeep wheels on it for her, and a two inch lift kit. That thing was amazing.

Best: I'd have to say our family's green, 4 door 1970 Plymouth Valiant with a /6 and automatic. You could not kill the thing, even though a truck backed into it and it had been hit on all four sides (but not the doors luckily). We eventually sold it because it looked so bad. About a year after we sold it, I saw it at a gas station fueling up - still going!
This is an internet image of a similar car - not ours though!

Worst: It would have to be our 2005 Buick Rendezvous Ultra. Yes, we actually bought one! On the plus side, it was extremely comfortable and you could actually fit a lot into it. With AWD, it actually handled snow and elements well also. I called it the BUG: Butt Ugly Gas guzzler. It had small nagging issues all along, like the fuel sender, A/C, leaking sun roof, etc. At about 100,000 miles, the transmission went. I trashed the car

Mine ? 69 sport Satellite, 87 Dodge Daytona, 83 Aries... Family ? 08 Impala ( $45 blocked vent tube in 8 years only non-maintenace repair) & 2 Ford Explorers, one sold with over 300k.

My delivery vw van 2007, 8 years and 180 km a day five days a week and only minor problems, the small vw 1.8 liter engine is bullet proof.

Wasn’t the prettiest car but drove it as my work car from 1980 to 1991, 225 slant.
Had radiator totally blocked with cardboard during the winter just to get enough heat to take my gloves off
Not the actual car pic, but just a brown 4 door identical to this.
It always started and never let me down

Don't have it any more but my 1999 Honda DX/5 speed was a great reliable running car. Bought it on a Salvage Title after it was stolen and the dash was replaced with one and the actual mileage was off by 1500 miles. Didn't care as it ran like a scalded Cat. Gave it to my Nephew when he needed a car. What with the cost of gas now a days, wish I still had it...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

my old 95 & 98 Power Ram 2500's 4x4s
both Cummins 5.9 turbo diesel had over 350k
hard towing, hard 4 wheeling & commute miles on each of them
even after me hopping **** up, lifting them & huge tires etc.
no real failures
just regular maintenance items

my current 99 Dakota SLT 4x4 5.2lt/318 Magnum
albeit only has 60k on it
has been dependable as hell too,
I love that lil' truck
did a few mods way back when
Hypertech tuner
HS Roller rockers 1.7:1
3" cat-back Flowmasters exhaust
AEM airbox & 4" air intake, w/swirl spacer TB baseplate, Gauze filter
32x11 tires
Powerstop (IIRC ?) slotted & drilled front rotors & yellow-stuff pads
(just recently, when I finally did the front brakes, great new brakes)
only 2 different sensors
a speed sensor in the trans
& an ABS sensor in the diff, crapped out
my console cover, is delaminated 'not torn' just rolling up on the edges a bit
all of it, is more age than anything IMO
'that all' that went out in 22 years
everything else is basic upkeep
pretty damn good track record Dodge

I have to agree with Budnicks on the 95-98 dodge diesel trucks being tuff. We have a 97 dually five speed well past 300K. Squirrels ate the Speedo wiring, 10 years ago at about 300K, so I don’t know how many miles it has now.. but 1 water pump, 1 alternator. Clutch went out cause the hired hand couldn’t drive a stick. Nothing but abuse and towing, and neglect! With the Engine electronics bypassed…. Pretty sure that darn thing will be driving around after the apocalypse. But it will be WITHOUT out doors then.

My 2002 Yukon XL went to 356,000 before the oil pump would not build pressure on a -30* day and lost a rod bearing…bit 3 waterpumps, 2 alternators, 2 fuel pumps and replaced the wheel bearings 3 times (dirty roads issue). Never had it aligned in all those miles, 1 u joint went out for the first time last year. It’s tough, but the diesel dodge is sooooo much tougher…

Honorable mention for the B bodies forum… We are second owners of a 72 Charger 318 with 278,000 miles on it. It has had a water pump and a fuel pump, maybe some front end work, everything else was untouched. But before we bought it I think it never exceeded 55 mph….We bought it, drove it 2 miles (original owner was 1 mile away)…. decided it ran good so we ran a 1/4 mile. Right off the motor mount gave up and the fan went through the shroud. Must have did something to the exhuast and it fell off within the next mile. Pulled into the driveway and the timing chain gave out. LOL, I guess we are a little harder drivers than the 70-80 year old couple that bought it new.
