I have recently been trying to lessen my pile of project cars and parts and focus on my '71 Road Runner and GTX. Well, that wasn't to be the situation. My son and I got back yesterday from an 2 1/2 day, 1100 mile trip to get our next project. Here's the story:
I friend of my Dad's called me last month trying to help his niece, who is an estate appraiser, get the word out on a 1969 "Dodge" GTX that was in California. I asked to for some pictures and received these:

Actually a 1968 Plymouth GTX.
While the car is a complete project, my curiosity was peaked as it was obvious that the car had set for a long time. I contacted the owner's daughter who was responsible for the estate and found out that the car had been sitting since 1983 in the same storage unit along with a bunch of parts from a '69 Road Runner drag car. She gave me a price for everything and while not cheap, still seemed to be a decent deal and I asked for more pictures including the fender tag and the VIN, which I had to wait 2 weeks for because she lived 2 states away from where the car was stored:

Looking at the pictures, I noticed the OE tranny cooler, booster bracket and emblem holes in the trunk lid. When she sent me the VIN- RS23J8GXXXXXX and fender tag pictures, I had to sit down. Holy $#!+, a real hemi car!
The fender tag broke down:
426 hemi, auto, 3.23 Sure grip.
QQ1 blue, white stripes, black vinyl top, fender signal indicators
15" Redline tires
Blue interior, console
Power disc brakes
We finalized the deal and made arrangements to meet and complete the sale. We cut our deer season short and left Thursday morning to pick up the car and Road Runner parts, which included a B-body Dana, hemi 4 speed with a Vertical Gate, 383 short block, 4 sets of heads, fenders, '69 hood, fiberglass 6 pac hood and a bunch of extra GTX parts including the original hood.
We got more info from the family while we were there. We will be the 3rd owner's, the original owner pulled the hemi, installed a 440 and sold the car to their father, the second owner in 1978. It was driven until 1983 and then parked and at some point the paint was stripped. It has always been stored inside and the only real rust is the passenger lower quarter and a small spot in the trunk. We picked it up 9 miles from the location of the original dealership that sold it new, it had never left the area.

Here's the car moving for the first time in 32 years and loading the pickup:

And our road trip home, which included a flat on the U-Haul trailer and sleeping in a rest stop so we could get home in time for my Dad's 75th birthday party.

Hey look Prehistoric Forest!

And home.

More to come, will post more pics as we clean the car out and search for the broadcast sheet. This one will go on the rotisserie once the '71 GTX is finished. Thanks
