DOGS

How to confuse your hunting dog...

How is Elvis doing?
Not a whole lot better,
seems like he's stabilized for lack of a better word
he's eatings some saltine crackers,
diced cooked meats,
diced sourdough bread, all 3 I hand feed him,
eating food off mine & my dad's plates,
but very lil' though, not with the gusto he once did
(He just turned 9 in June 3rd)
he's not starving & he's still a lil' lethargic,
he's lost like 7-10#s last I weighed him (a month into this crap)
he was 105-108# at his peak, he's like 98#s now
looks like muscle mass loss, especially in his rear legs
no signs of hip problems or spine issues
he wants to play just doesn't have the energy
been taking him on walks when it's cool at night,
so not so damn hot, but he gets tired fast, it's huge blocks round trip up here
like almost a mile round trip
we get home & he'll eat a few 10 or so saltine crackers
drinks plenty of water, wants nothing to do with swimming
still won't touch 'any dog food', in his bowl or any other bowl/plate
I tried hand feeding that to him too, he was having none of it...

He's had a few tests nothing really shows up
it's like he's in doggie depression, I don't know
he's too young for this, I feel so bad for him...

:thankyou: for asking, caring
It was like one day, like a light switch just turned off...
he quit eating dog food & been lethargic 'at spells'
wants to play but does like 1 throw & he's done

Dam Im sorry he hear that. Can your friend bring their dog over to see if that might perk up Elvis.

I took him up the hill to play with my cousin's lil' female lab Bodie
she' a lil' yellow lab runt, like 4 years old, only like 40#s
like a freaken' ball of energy

they interacted, I didn't see much change,
it's like she knew he wasn't feeling right, she sort of left him alone
Elvis did a few fetches & laid down the rest of the time
it's normally a huge fetch fest,
challenge to them/contest see who's faster & gets the ball, stick or whatever 1st

my sister brought her dog 'Koni' down they are great buds,
last weekend
he's a fixed male Belgian Shepherd, former rescue military dog
maybe like 80#s-ish (?)
it perked him/Elvis up a bit, they acted relatively normal when outside
but he always acts relatively normal outside
strange thing but neither dog, would eat dog food that weekend
even fed to them in the kitchen
even the special blend of Koni's, my sister brought down with her
Koni usually scarfs up anything in Elvis bowl too,
but he didn't
they'd both go in there to drink water,
but not touch the dog food

Strange stuff...

I've been feeding him chicken breast, I have to dice it up or he won't touch it
he used to be able to eat like nobodies business, until he's stuffed
he can't/or won't even eat 1 breast now...

:thankyou: for the concern & ideas

Ok one more and I will stop. Did the vet check his intestines? Thor ripped a rope apart and some tangled around his intestines , he would not eat or eat little.

No harm no foul...

Yeah no obstructions they did ex-rays, also of his hips & spine too, head & throat etc.
a lot of times stuff like strings or rope won't show up on ex-rays
he doesn't destroy his or others toys either
he doesn't chew on ropes, but he doesn't have access to any either

his stick & most all his toys, he's had for 9 years now
used to fetch it (the stick) 20 times a day, he hardly plays with it these days
or even chews on it, he's a true soft mouth Lab

They had to do emergency operation on Thor. He even had something in his stomach that the vet had no clue what it was. Only my boy Thor could do this. :BangHead:

I wish I was at $5k with Gemma (lymphoma). I'm 3 - 4 times that already and that is only to get 6 months of quality time with her.
What is sad is they know we will drop stupid money for our babies and they ream us.
