engine for my Durango..... scratch that, Dakota resurrection instead

4200 miles in, the truck is flawless; I love it.......... pulled the oil stick today and the level hasn't budged, kinda dirty though; it's getting a change.

I popped off the radiator cap to have a look; uh oh, someone is running straight water  ......... I totally forgot to swap it out for antifreeze after I got it running. I had no idea ........ major disaster averted :wtf:
It's all the bondo dust that's attached to your brain cells.

Just a tip:
Oil in engine, coolant in radiator.
Even a caveman can do it.

lucky we didn't get an early freeze........ I'd be suicidal

Good thing you remembered!

hit a deer with the Dakota last night....... 4 of them popped out of the woods in front of me; as I came to a stop, I bumped one. He got up and ran away. No damage to the truck :icon_fU:

I ordered myself a fancy LED bar light for my front bumper. I've Lived here for ever, and never seen this many deer...... they seem to be everywhere, it was just a matter of time, and I got lucky

You need to stop those late night pizza runs, or were you warming up the engine so the block don't freeze???

Jeez: You're lucky. One ran into my bike, I did everything right, jammed the brakes hard, steered over to the left of the road and the SOB still ran into me but at least I didn't go over him. Broke 5 pieces of plastic on the bike, So rather than try to match the paint I just sold the dang thing. I still miss it. Pretty sure Deer IQ is in the -.5 range.

Our '99 Tahoe gets stored during the salt season.

Our '96 Suburban has the same engine and drive train as our Tahoe. And although it still runs and drives decent, we had to retire it recently due to rotting frame rails. We keep it around still for just this reason...parts, parts, parts.

Glad I'm not in the north.....grew up in the NE though and remember dad's cars having bad rust on them just after a few years. Been in the south since 63 with a short stay in 61. Yeah, it's hot here but things don't rust if kept inside. I live kinda close to the the Gulf Coast and we get a heavy dew nearly every morning unless a cold front moves through. This morning at nearly 8am, the humidity was 92% and in the mid 50's and everything outside was wet from the dew.

I'll take my chances on it not being stolen or totaled..........

I'd like to think I'll never buy another vehicle, and I have a ton of newer mechanicals in this one: I know what I have

I doubt I can replace it for 5K; yes Durangos are out there, but they're all gonna need everything I have done to this one.

v8, 4wd ........ good trucks/suv's are pricey these days

and a stash of OEM parts is priceless these days
I miss the 2000 Durango that I bought my wife in Oct of 99....5.2 with 3.90 LSD and fully loaded with trailer tow package. Kinda figured it would deteriorate kinda quickly when she left but didn't expect her to run it without any coolant in it. Oh well.....and I take my chances with my older vehicles too. All of mine are still original except for the 96 Dakota. It's had the heads off....probably for cracking. The 95 still cooks but is a beater. Still rust free though and everything works but just not real good lol
I guess I'm the only one thinking he should put an LS in it?
Eh, I vote for an old Ferd moder from a Pinto!
Nice!! Trucks are useful to have around...
I got 3....well, 4 now since my new spouse came with a 22 Colorado Z71 or whatever. Probably should put up at least a carport for it lol. No room in the shop these days with all that's in it including 2 trucks and 2 cars. Too tight for my liking as it is.

Yep had 6 out at the lake this morning,1 in the road so I stopped and the other 5 crossed.
