Budget conscious Performance Upgrades

Rollin' and Trollin' baby!! :steering:

I’ve seen it time and time again:
Some day my car will be perfect and I’ll get it out then. Some day never comes.
A guy I raced with dropped dead last week. 64 years old.
Last season he never raced because of something with his new motor. That’s a shame.

Sorry to hear about that, I try to get my father involved but sadly he’s a die hard olds guy so he wants nothing to do with my mopars!

Ratty muscle for the win!

For many of us, we are satisfied with a loud and fast car with little to no regard for winning a trophy at a car show.
"Jigsaw" above is how a lot of these cars looked in the 80s after going through a few owners.
The OP's car...

...Looks a bit like mine. I'd rather hang out with THIS guy than some pompous snob that is all talk and zero action.
Is that just MY opinion or are there others that feel the same way ?

Personally I think it looks a lot better than it did when I got it

This summer’s investment strategy is to turn $1400 worth of clutch into dust and noise.

Trophies at the drags trumps shiny paint trophies all day long

I don't have a dog in the fight. Or any suggestions that's better than these that are already said. I just want to say I love your car the way it is, and do what you like. It's cool and it's got a good story.

The vast majority of us started out doing this the low buck way. Some extremely ignorant people fail to recall that.

At 23 years of age, few people had a bag full of fun money to throw at a project, let alone the will power to take on a car that was pushing 60 years old.

Keep at it!

Yeah and I’m well aware that I missed out on the days of so called “low buck” performance (only by about 30 years lol!) I always try to learn as much as I can from older folks who didn’t have the tech and speed parts we do today because I always hear stories how you can still make good power with the old tricks! I’m soon to be getting a C-Body from a coworker for the summer and just want to have some cash set aside for that car if anything would happen to whatever C-Body I get off him (he’s all 67-70 c bodies and he has like 14) but thank you and everyone else! I plan on keeping this one and many more in the future alive till I’m thrown in jail for running on gas!

Nope, I spend all my $ on race car parts. Ever here of the term hillbilly?
Hillbilly????.......it depends on whether you are one or want to be one......is that term similar to the term: "stump jumper" or does infur a person's I.Q. or educational level (or lack of either), personally, I prefer to invest my $$$, and share the fruits of my labor (accumulated $$$) with my Lady as we travel first class, staying at first class hotels, sampling first class cuisine, buying Hugo-Boss or Hickey-Freeman suits, buying a new Cadillac Escalade, paying cash (writing a check)........but, if spending $$$ on a race car is your thing...more power to you and i hope you enjoy doing so.....am I a hillbilly....I don't think so.......

You're such a dumb fu**. I refered to myself as a hillbilly.
But if you bought a new Escalade, the term that comes to mind is sucker.

Subscribed.

How would I know you were referring to yourself?? Sorry you feel that buying an Escalade is a "suckers" move....not sure why...???? Perhaps no more so than spending $$$, racing 1/4 mile at a time.....but to each his own volition.....as noted previously, I prefer to share my good fortunes with my Lady....doing things together.......making memories.......I guess it's a matter of differing philosophies....

I think what you’re doing is cool. I like the Duct Tape Drag concept a lot. There was a kid that was doing this a few years back. I think he got his 383 B-Body into the 12s.

First, in my opinion I think you car will go 14.4 @ 97 right now. That would be at Milan in late fall, with a fist full of tuning tools, and driving practice

If you’re pulling the motor anyways, I would look to do a budget hop-up to the short block, and spend what’s left on the heads.

Hang +0.030” KB237 pistons on the end of your rods. Bore and hone, balance and what the crank needs. Add bearings. Keep everything else you already have. Keep your timing set, cam and valve train.

Pic the aluminum head that gets you 10 - 10.5:1 CR. Slap them on.

This with everything you already have will get you knocking on the door of 12.99.
