Back in the late 80’s I ended up building a few low buck re-ring type 400’s.
One got some 516 heads, a SD intake/650DP, and the 484-108 cam.
Modded the carb for 4 corner idle, redid the dist curve……. And sold it to a guy who put it in a 71 charger with headers, 4.10’s and a 10” converter...
I also have a good 727 transmission and a Dynamic converters 727 custom built converter for this engine available. The converter cost 865.00 09/22
Willing to sell both for an extra 600
with the engine.
Actually, Texans are the only ones who can realistically make fun of Okies...
And since we're on the subject, pretty sure that purple 71 Cuda posted above is at the dragstrip in Tulsa...can't be 100% cause I cant see any of the buildings there or any landmarks, but that looks exactly right from...
I've this cam in my .030 over 9:1 440 (built around 25 years ago; I've owned about 10 years now) runs excellent. Decent idle, pulls strong, lots of torque, never seems to drop off. 906 heads, 727, slightly warmer than stock converter, 3:55s. Not sure which version it is but leaning toward the...
I've done the bushing LY rod thing before. It's really not straightforward. Some of the forgings look like the top and bottom dies aren't perfectly aligned. Notice how the pin hole will look offset on one side and ok on the other side. To do it right you'll probably need a couple sets of rods...
I looked at the wiring a bit during lunch (benefit of WFH) and it uses two antennas. It came with a bit of harness that belongs to a mystery car and this thing for the radio antenna.
I'm guessing its some kind of noise suppressor that appears separate from the Kraco kit. It also has a wire...
The shop I was working at in 1990 built a 440 for someone, and we milled the domes off the 2295’s that were used in it.
No problems with it at all.
Find 2 extra cc’s somewhere to add to the numbers above and you’re at 9.088cr(1027/113)
I bought the white trunk sliders to install on my (very early) 68 Charger but when I went to install them, I noticed that the trunk hinge cam where the FSM says that the slider should rest on looks very different from the "box" style in the manual (both left and right hinges have the same set...
They both close it too late. It was a bad choice for my engine, but...... It was $free.99. Maybe I should not have been so cheap?
I would not put a 114° lobe speration in anything I expected decent mid range out of.
Nothing, including companies lasts forever, and IMO, it was good while it lasted, as also I'm a true Craftsman guy, who worked at Sears during holidays in the early 50's.
