On my first job as a motorcycle mechanic one new guy had an engine apart. He stopped working on it after it was almost finished. He had an extra bolt..... Boss came over and said I have been looking all day for that.(He put it there). Lesson be sure of yourself.
Funny now.
I have that loop. Expensive but easy to install. I have a built 512 and would never drive without one. My first 440-6 experience was in high school in the 70s. 71 charger.
He broke the drive shaft with me in it. I will never for get that one. Next day pulled one in a junk yard. If you have to...
I had issues with 3/8 on 440 Source heads on my 512 build. Went with Smith Brothers 5/16 no problem. Fast ship. Fit perfect. 440 source will sell a single 3/8 rod i used it for checking length and clearance. Helped with both.
Here in NJ (Since moved to Florida) Finding a machine shop that would touch a MOPAR at any cost was tough. I was lucky and found a shop. The 4 month wait hurt more than the $$$. Built my 512 myself. Stealth kit and heads. Runs great.
Now in Florida shops are half the price and there are a few...
Use spray carb cleaner. Spray a bunch in and it will prime after one or two times, Safer starting fluid.
I use it on my 440-6. The crap fuel evaporates after a week or 2. Carb cleaner and it fires right up.
My 440 with stock rockers and a .509 punched several of them bent pushrods when that happened. On my 512 build I am using the Mancini rockers. Checked them at 1000 miles perfect. Remember that you will need custom pushrods another $200 or so. Stay away from the cheap rollers!!!!!
Leaving NJ for Florida shipped purple car back to Florida where it came from. 5 years in NJ for full restoration. Joins my 1972 Roadrunner that I bought in 1987. It was in body shop there. 1970 is finished (never) on to the 72. My 2 fav colors. 1967 barracuda also need attention. NJ is finished!!!
I am running the .564 in a 512. It is a six pack. With 440 Source heads.
It has plenty of power and a very nice sound at idle. Vacuum might be too low for power brakes. I use an electric pump so does no bother me.
I really like the cam. I had a Mopar 509 cam in the 440 before I blew it it...
I have a 440 Source 512 with stealth heads just built it last month. Nice. Still sorting the six pack and breaking it in. I have a vacuum pump mounted under the battery tray. Invisible. Works great plenty of brakes power. On Ebay for 200 or so.
Check the push rod cups in the stock rocker arms. I have punched out several over the years. Look fine until you look close. In the old days we called 440 push rods rev limiters. Bent a few dozen over the years. New 512 has roller rockers and Smith Bro. push rods!!!
Hi I solved the drivers door rattle, broken vent window pivot. Welded it... perfect. Passenger side pivot is good. Went to tighten the window bolts and I am missing the bracket that the big U notch on the vent window fits into that has two bolts at the door front and one behind a plug??? Any...
Try living in NJ. All the body shops want to paint Audis and BMWs for collision repairs and a quick 5 to 20 grand. No one will touch my purple beast, needs a few scratches touched up.
The car was originally painted in FL. LOL. I bought it because the body and paint work was already finished...
Funny the white piece under the far bottom is the wing template that I lost 2 years ago. I knew I put it in the trunk!!!
At least they painted the other side Black :-) Not even am I that cheap!!!
