Is the handset on the right line? Plumbing the remote wrong by accident is not uncommon. If you use a temporary clear line you should see air bubbles in the oil when you crank it if its sucking air. I would crank it with the lines off before pulling the pan.
The factory fuel gauge reads a VOLTAGE that is reduced by the fuel sender rheostat (connected via the sender wire to the ground side of the gauge) from the full pulsed 5 volts it's supplied by the IVR. Agreed, why you can't hook another gauge in the sender wire!
I've had others that had issues with slosh depending on location. either way with a puke can your covered. Mine is way back just above the fliuid return posrt from the cooler. I've been using brass/nylon push lock fittings with clear hose for years.
