1967 Coronet 500 - Billings Montana

I will admit its been awhile since ive been here but man, you are making some great progress and hope soon this will be but a memory as your having the time of your life! The parts your getting, i hope some day ill be doing the same, first the car, then the amenities to salute her!

Thanks Ron, I have really been having fun with the car. The pistons were on backorder for 5 weeks so the motor build is taking longer than expected but in reality I am in no big hurry - the joy is in the journey and not the end result right?

I have met and continue to meet so many cool people and have so many neat experiences because of the Coronet project - it's amazing!

Just today, I was just casually dropping off my rear center section to my gear man and look what they had on their alignment rack... Pretty Nice huh?

Perrty nice is an understatement! Wow, envy bug digin hard here buddy, VERY nice!!

Looks like things are coming together for you, nice job on the K member. Looking good MT

I didn't do it!!! lol.. You said you dropped off your center section for your gear man, i hope that turned out good, im Media blasting mine and want to primer and paint it when done and ill need to buy new bearings for the axles, If you've done that maybe you could let me know where you got your bearings? Its been moved around without the center section in it ( haven't got it hear) and i want new bearings when i do get the center section to make sure all is ok... If you could get some one else with the same (lets have a ball smile) to get in where you are there, you could just have him make power under the hood! :)

Hi Ron,

Well, my center section is not done yet and I have not had much time to think about axle bearings. Don't quote me, but I think allot of guys are going with a sealed bearing by the name of "Green", search for "green bearings" and you will find stuff on them, I remember reading briefly on that subject a while back.

I am in driveshaft mode, I am planning on upgrading to a 1350 series and am researching my options.

My pistons were on back-order for 6 weeks which put me behind on my build, but oh well, its worth the wait, and gives me time to get the other 50 things just right... like axle bearings!

Picked up a Doug's X pipe on sale for $95 shipped... I think I am going to go with the Flowmaster 50 series 3.5" in and out.

That Doug's pipe look's pretty decent John. They make good stuff! What made you decide to go the X-Pipe route?

I would like to know as well, since talking to old timer experts (all with racing pedigree), there is absolutely no reason to run x pipes..

I wanted an even sounding exhaust, that's the only reason. I am looking for a unique sound though, that is why I went with 3.5" all the way out with the Flowmaster 50's, should be a nice low rumble. Plan is to exit in front of the rear tire with a 3.5" X 4.5" tip.

This exhaust is just an experiment and is definitely up for revision. Might go with Dr. Gas boom tubes later down the road.

That should sound pretty good. Now all you need is some pistons!

When I did my axles, I used Strange bearings. Part number A1022. Came with the bearing, ring, retainer plate and seal. Super easy system. Bearing are sealed...didn't have to pack them. Took the axles to the local shop for pressing. I think I paid $31 each side for these.

I like the idea of the cut outs..But really think about that x pipe. Most I have seen and heard end up making a V8 sound like a ricer! Raspy and thin. YOu have put so much work into this car and it has to sound good..If you want a cross over do a H Pipe instead..

Car is looking great so far!

You don't happen to work on base there do you? I was going to try to get on as a contractor Air Force Huey's.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated.

I might initially just go straight back with true dual exhaust, that would be easier and less work also.

Thanks! Actually, Malmstrom AFB is NW of where I am about 3-4 hrs. Lots of Huey's up there, B-1's fly by here and do touch and go's quite often, pretty cool to watch them.

Well if it makes you feel any better I'll post a video ASAP of mine running with a 3" X pipe and with mufflers modeled after the Flowmaster super 40s so you can hear them, I think it's mean as hell sounding. Looking good MT

IQ52 is building my 440 motor for the Coronet, here is Cody porting my Eddy Victor heads with the before and after flow data.

Looking good John.

How are the electric cutouts wired? are the NC in a non-powered state and then only draining power when open? I a thinking about them for mine, just wasn't sure what the power drain would be like on the charging system.
