1969 Charger 340

Nice work you are doing here. Thanks for all of the close up detailed pics. They are very helpful!

Great video- the last 15 minutes was good. I’m going to tweak the rear valance a bit. I’ll do my best to get those corners forward.
I’m headed out to the garage in a little bit.

Well well well, I thank you all. One corner damn near perfect! I wound up having to “adjust” the rear crossmember with my 3 pound adjuster like you’ve suggested and that’s the trick. That allowed the ends to roll under just enough.
As it got closed it became more obvious how this was all supposed to come together. The lower edges form an almost straight line around the back of the car.

And I figured out what that tab could be for!!

All together and lined up. I put the trunk latch in, adjusted it to the old bolt marks and it’s spot on!
It’ll come apart for prep, the next time it goes together it’s staying together!

Dang, that would have been good to know 7 years ago when we did my Charger. We ended up slicing the corner pieces and welding in a wedge. Nice work.

Ok u used the tab to pull the corner in? Hard to tell. I mite redo my charger so I’m just want to collect all the info. Thanks jesse

Yes, but looking at it further I believe that tab folds up and welds to the top of the trunk drop-off and quarter seam. It really helped draw those parts together.

I’ll post a pic when I take it apart- but where the trunk drop off weld to the rear crossmember had to be hammered in until the gap closed up.

So instead of the rear crossmember being perfectly straight across, the ends gently curve forward. I’m not 100% sure but I believe my orig one did curve gently. I recall noticing that but that was a while back.

Thanks, as i get further into these panels and restorations I realize take a million pictures. And still double check triple check. Just put a AMD floor board in my sons valiant came out great. Little moving thing around but over all great install. Seamed sealed it and then as i was going through the parts I found i missed to install the metal wire track that runs from front to back on both passenger side and driver side. Now i have to go back. But thanks for your detail mu charger will be next. Jesse

Welded in. I fitted them and ran a screw in from the back to hold them while I removed the valance to weld. Test fit the valance back on. Done.
They’ll just hand out there now while I pull and prep everything else.

Another evening, another patch. Doing the panel in sections so I don’t loose my edges for reference.

Fitting the deck filler panel. Still a lot of adjusting and tweaking. I want to minimize the cutting and welding I’ll have to do to get the rear window trim to fit nice.
I ran out of welding clamps the clamp the left and right flanges from underneith.

I’m starting on my floor rust. I picked up a section and am going to use as little as possible.
I decided to butt-weld on top of the front torsion crossmember flange.
I may butt-weld it below the firewall flange too. But I haven’t decided.
the 90 degree adapter is great for the spot weld cutter!!

Taking a break from the back and fitting in a floor pan piece.
This is all I’m going to replace, the rest is in nice shape.
I’m going to butt-weld most of it in and dress it from both sides.

I took a break from tweaking and adjusting at the rear and did the floor patch
I wish I had a before pic, but I didn’t take one. I spent a lot of time on the tail end trying to get things right.
I finally took the quarter panel extension off and stuck in the vise and gave it a twist!
The chipped up area at the trunk lidwas in the vise. Twisted it with some channellocks and it’s perfect.

A couple more small patches this evening on the tail panel. Knocking them out.

Fitting the rear bumper supports in the trunk, I wast so happy with the rear edge of the floor. I had to flatten and move the rear edge of the trunk floor back 1/4 of an inch.
This made everything fit so much nicer. I ran a line from one valance corner to the other.
