1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Yeah I'm pretty stoked about this thing finally getting its turn in the booth. Seems like I've been waiting forever. They plan on painting the car Friday morning and all the other panels Friday afternoon. It will get baked in the booth and then sit in the shop till Monday when it will come home. I went all out and had them get some of the original style Organisol for the rear panel. Very pricey, but what the hell its only money - right?

Organisol is cool stuff, saw it on an AAR 'Cuda my buddy restored for a guy, gonna look mean!

What is this organisol?

It is the funky black paint that was used on Charger tailpanels, Road Runner hoods, and I am sure a lot of other applications as well. It has a textured satin look from what I have been told. It isn't really possible to reproduce the look with anything else and this stuff hasn't been produced for awhile. PPG came out with a single stage urethane recently that is supposed to look good. When the body shop ordered it for me, the paint supplier made the comment that they sell a lot of it to Muscle Car Restorations - which is only 10 miles away from me.

Just left the body shop. The 3rd coat of clear just went on and the 45 minute bake time was started, so I couldn't open up the booth to take decent pics. I had to leave and wont be able to get back before 5:00, so I will have to wait till Monday to get a good look at it. The painter did tell me it turned out beautiful and the bodywork was perfect - which means a lot coming from him. So that is a load off my mind, worrying about bodywork showing through black paint. They are going to paint the Organisol on the tailpanel as well as the rest of the body parts on Monday. So - LIFE IS GOOD.

It must have turned out pretty nice, because I just got home at 7:30 and there was a message from the shop owner saying he will stick around until 6:00 if I could make it back by then. He said "I think you will be pleased with the way it turned out". But alas, I still have to wait until Monday to get a viewing. Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

new born hmmmm blue or:icon_pidu: pink

Congrats Hunt, it gets allot more fun now not having to worry about the bodywork anymore and being able to start bolting it together. Sure looks good.

H2E It's been a long road to this point. Right now it's just before the final cut on that black diamond to make it perfect.

On that is sweet, I bet you won't be able to sleep till you see it. I am excited and it's not my car? congratulations on fine piece of craftsman ship.
