1969 Charger R/T resurrection

H2E . . . Really cool truck . . . just what we need, another of your vehicles for us to be really jealous of ! ! ! ( smile )

Love the new wheels - Congratulations on the new ride ! ! ! You deserve it . . .

I did manage to get the gas tank installed. This was a Spectra Premium tank made in Canada and by far the best fitting brand I have used. I just about popped a nut getting the fill tube into the tank though. I've replaced tanks on my Road Runners before and it isn't terrible because a guy can push the tube straight in from the back of the car. These Chargers are a whole different story. Finally got it after a bunch of silicone and then grease, getting in the trunk laying sideways, and firing off a few choice words. I don't know if it was just this car, but I couldn't get the trunk to tube seal to fit nice using the 4 holes provided by AMD. I ended up drilling new ones about .25" away from the existing ones. Now I have a nice seal around the tube. I also added some 3m strip caulk around this opening from the underside. The only other issue is that I had to drill a hole for the vent line into the frame rail next to the fill tube. The AMD pan comes with one about 2 inches to far to the rear. My other Charger with what is left of the original pan has 2 holes in this location, so I just measured off that one for a reference.

Hunt2elk, did you get the Hemi or the diesel? Looks like the gas, does it have 400 hp?

Its just the gas HEMI. I don't really know what the hp rating is, but it has plenty for whatever I need it for. Although a diesel would be nice at times, I make a lot of short trips which probably wouldn't be the best for it.

Nice progress elk and congrats on the truck :icon_thumleft: and for anyone else it might help, x2 for spectra tanks. I got one for my car and fit like a glove for me too.

And yep that filler neck is a b!tch and a half, I worked like hell to get it into the tank out of the car, then raised it all in as one piece. I could only imagine how big of a pain it'd be to try and push into the tank when it's in the car!

very very nice h2, your charger is gonna be beautiful. congrats on the truck. that will be a sexy combo if you tow it anywhere.

The car looks fabulous ever a little dirty Elk, nice job on getting that tube installed in the vehicle I'm sure that was a biatch and I know you're glad it's in the past.

Did you get the zinc coated tank or the stainless one? I'm glad to hear you guys brag on them since I have one in the box waiting to go in the R/T. I got the zinc coated one.

Congrats on the new truck too it's looks really sharp.

I guess I didn't know there was an option. Mine is the CR9A.

I know i haven't been around lately and going over the past few pages, Awesome is a great word with your Charger Elk! Very nice and coming along good, nice looking truck to set beside your 69!

Boy your moving right along "looks great".

I got a few free hours and managed to get the 3/8" supply and 1/4" return fuel lines installed. Then I have started on the brakes. Pedal assembly and e-brake assembly are in, as well as the front to rear brake line. I am waiting for the correct disc front lines from The Right Stuff. I am in the middle of a little go-around with In-Line Tube at the moment and will post how it turns out. Their customer service is terrible and I should have remembered this from the last project I did. I bought all the brake and fuel lines from them 1.5 years ago, and a brake conversion kit from Pirate Jack. When I purchased the lines, I was going to keep the car drums all around so bought lines accordingly. Well since I changed my mind and went to discs, I needed 2 different front hard lines. No big deal and my mistake so I have no problem buying new ones. I also needed a short hard line that goes between the 2 valves. In-Line makes it, but wont sell the piece individually because I bought a conversion kit from someone else. They told me I would have to go elsewhere for that. I told them to send the 2 other lines I needed $32.50 + $32.50 + $17.35 shipping = $82.35 and I still need the line they wont sell me. So I called The Right Stuff. "Sure we make the short line you need and sell it for $5.00, but why not just buy the whole 5 piece front line set for $59.00 and be done." That's what I did and am waiting to see if my card will be credited from In-Line. I still cant understand why In-Line refused to sell me the one short line after I had purchased so much other things from them.
I also learned a little about drum brakes during all this. Apparently not all these cars came with the auto adjusters. I couldn't understand why the service manual shows different pictures with different spring set-ups, and this is why. I did buy the kits, but don't think I am going to use them. I always check the brakes every spring when I do an oil change anyway, and seem to remember as a kid the auto adjusters not always working the way they were supposed to.

WOW . . . Looking really nice there H2E . . . Fine job, just like everything else you've been doing ! !

Keep it up and the smoke will be flying soon ! ! !

I agree its all looking good and "neatly" done with the lines and all, i learned something new here to as i didn't know some came without the auto adjusters..

Looking good Hunt but you may want to slow down "you'll run out of things to do before Spring haha". Congrts on being almost there.

LMAO 747Mopar . . . He's still got 800 parts to install on the project . . . and counting . . . ( smile )

Very nice detail work there Elk.

If memory serves me correctly I think auto adjusters started in 69 on B bodies depending on which brake setup you had and later, I think 70 all setups had them .. or something like that

Excellent looking work H2E. It's always the fun part when you start putting clean parts back onto a clean car. No dirty hands!

My 69 GTX also has no auto adjusters.

Looking good H2E. The little stuff sure can add up to the biggest headaches. That's pretty surprising stunt in-line pulled with you. Disheartening. I have the right stuff front brake line kit in my bird and installed on my coronet a year or two ago. Fit was good.

That's a good one Devin lol. No chance of running out of things to do - my punch list is still quite long.

Yeah Will, kind of wondering what the heck they are thinking. They lost me as a customer for any future projects over a $5. part. The good news is that the new lines came today from The Right Stuff and look great. Still waiting to hear about taking the charge off my credit card bill from In-Line :angryfire:

You keep telling me how many parts I have left has got me wondering - how many individual parts and pieces do you think are on one of these cars? I'll bet there is at least an extra 100 on a Charger compared to a Road Runner.

I'm just guessing . . . I have no clue . . . but I do know that I took OFF a whole bunch of parts when taking my car apart ! ! !

I'm just running the COUNTDOWN for you H2E . . . and eventually you'll run out of parts like 747Mopar said ! ! ! ( smile )

Love it . . . it's looking awesome !

Eventually it'll be . . . 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . BURNOUT ! ! ! ! !

I told you so when i said only 999 left n counting. Its a lot easier taking apart but cleaner putting together.its coming together perfect n looking real good thanks for updates n dos n donts on buying parts.

Looking good hunt! The only real words of encouragement I can offer are....................IS IT DONE YET, IS IT Done yet, is it done yet!!!!!
