1969 Charger Restro - Now my turn

Well, was up at the body shop today. MY body guy has been busy. The rear frame rails are welded in and the trunk floor has been welded in and the welds grinded. I spent some time sanding the roof and the front door while he was working on some other things. He installed the tail light housing while I was thereView attachment 162353View attachment 162354View attachment 162355

Tangerine Pearl will look awesome on that body style.

Wow - your body man really moves right along. Kind of nice to have a guy who will concentrate on just your car without getting sidetracked with other projects. That tangerine is going to look awesome on your car. Black roof and rump stripe also, right?

That looks terrific, glad to see he's getting after it and not dragging his feet.

Well, not to much going on. A few minor things were done to the car (body wise) forgot to take pictures. I am told a lot will be done by Sat., I can't go back up until then.
I did start on the heater box, will have that finished soon.
I tried my first powder coat job on my brake pedal, turn out nice. Learned a few things with the powder coat process for next time. I used semi-gloss black on the pedals, my body guy says it should be satin, but I like the look of it. heaterbox open.jpgbrake pedal.jpg

Heater box is looking good and that brake pedal came out nice! :icon_thumleft: I'd love to do some of my own powdercoating too, are you using the do it yourself kit that Eastwood sells and a garage sale kitchen*oven or ?

wow that all is looking very good there :headbang:

I'm with Speedy "a little more info on the powder coat". Looks great

I purchased the powder coat gun from Harbor Freight. I saw a bunch of videos on you tube and a bunch of people that like the gun. I think I had the 20% off coupon also.
Yes I was given a fairly new gas oven witch I found a way to convert to propane, my garage has power to it but no 220v and it is at least 150 ft away from my house, so it would be big $$$ to have a new line run back there. I purchased a 1/2 pound of semi gloss black from Eastwood ( they are a bit pricey ).
I saw that some people made a powder coat "booth" and I was going to do the same thing, other wise the powder goes all over in the garage and the fact that my GTX is in there would make a mess. I was going to make the booth out of 1" insulation board, went out and purchase the glue and such. I was about to start and all of a sudden it was staring me in the face, I had an old kitchen cabinet sitting next to me with no door on it, realized that would be my "booth".
I drilled a small hole on top to put a 3/16 steel rod through and purchased some swivel clips, a 14" x 14" furnace filter, an adaptor for the hose on the shop vac and cut a hole in the back of the cabinet and my booth was done. I have about $75 total into it. I then clip the Neg. clip from the powder coat system to the rod and put the piece I want powder coated on the swivel clip with coat hanger wire ( or welding rod) Start it up an start coating. There are some tricks and do's and don'ts....like do not let the gun get to close to the object. Once done, I took all the shelves out of the oven, screw a wire across the width of the oven on top, fired it up set it for 400 deg, 10 to 15 mins. later all done. Easy as...(ready for this) baking a pie. I will post a picture of my "booth" later. Don't laugh, you might hurt it's feelings.

Hell yeah that's awesome! No laughs from me, I'd love to set something up like that to mess around powder coating some of my smaller parts laying around. Very cool! :icon_thumleft:

Well, went to check on the progress yesterday and it's moving along, Both Qtrs are screwed in place for fitment purposes. The drivers side floor pan is welded in and the spot welds grinded off. Ma Mopar did not use very many spot welds to hold the floor in.....now I know why they creaked so much back in the day! Also got more of the back on

Great idea for your powder coating booth. Floor pans and quarters look right in place on the car. Hope they/you can keep the momentum going.

I have 246 "You son of a b*tches", 313 "piece of sh*t" and 98 "God D*mn ridiculous" statements made while drilling spot welds out, that would disagree with that comment...lol

Looks like work is moving along nicely!

Will, he's only talking about just the floor pans, not every single one you drilled out doing your car. LMAO!!!!

Ok, went up to work on the car, but when I got there my body guy says, not today, I would be in his way, but to come back on Sat. and I can start wire brushing the inside of the car. He wants to epoxy prime it on Monday (inside the car) and paint it. I did take a picture of the Pass side floor pan cut out. There was some rot in the cross member, so he hand fab'd a piece and welded it in. The other pictures are when I got home and went into my garage and decided to powder coat some parts. I got the clutch pedal and the Alt. bracket, with both of the shock brackets. I like the powder coating...pretty cool...beats spray cans.
