1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

My garage looks like a hurricane hit it, stuff all over. I got my firewall insulation finally so I took down the heater box, put up the insulation and replaced the fan vent tube and buttoned it back up.

With that up I could then start on the dash. I ran the wires for the tach I had and put in on in a location where there was already a hole for the wires and for the screw. Not super thrilled about the location so I will move it. Ran the ground and pickup for the tach out an unused hole in the bulkhead. Then threw the dash in lol. Not super easy by yourself but doable, and I cussed a lot.

And I started hooking up wires. Ran the trunk light back and plugged in the connectors as I went along. Pretty easy. And with the bulkhead connector in, I ran the engine wiring too. The main power feed I ran straight through the bulkhead connector bypassing the Packard 56 connection. Everything seems to just fall in place. I'm tired!

Finished connecting the dash wiring and got the console harness in as well. All went well except for the yellow wire for the door switch and courtesy light. I had it coming down on the pass side, needed to go down driver side. And there are a few male and female ends I needed to figure out.

Also re evaluated my motor mount which wouldn't work as I had it. So I got some grade 8 taper head bolts and put them in. This should work.

That looks good. Better then an ugly torque strap or turnbuckle.

This stuff goes on much easier than taking it off. Didn't really need any pictures as it fell together. Cleaned up and lubed the door mechanisms. The door handles are presentable but will likely get replaced in the future as time and money dictate.

Also, this came out of the driver side door and I cannot remember where it went. Maybe an anti vibration clip? Water guard? Has a groove that it mounts in....

It goes where the inner door handle is and covers the linkage. I "think" it is sort of a cover to make it harder to get to the linkage with a slim jim? Maybe is an anti-rattle cover.

Damn, we stayed in Yuma Thursday and Sunday night. Does the wind ever stop blowing...

Interesting, thanks!

Mine had the passenger side remaining (bodywork long ago likely lost the drivers side). I actually now remember it was there after looking at your photo. I am not even sure where the dang thing went. I need another good cleaning of the garage to plan out the final push to completion. I should find it then.

I just spent 10 minutes in the door and cannot figure out where it goes. No idea but I know it came out of there.

looks like your making some serious headway. keep up the good work.

Trying to but it seems to have slowed down.I really need to get the weatherstripping (still backordered) so I can get my side glass in. For the interior I need the front seat covers and door panels plus the pillar plastic trim pieces to get it "complete." Engine work is underway and taking up my spare money. And I still need to order about $450 worth of transmission parts, not including the TC. And the driveshaft needs to get ordered. It goes on and on and on. There is always something else lol.

Looking at my photos. Now that I look I think it just sort of "covered" the mechanism here where the inner handle attaches

Did you replace all your wiring? Specifically the dash wiring?

No, besides some butchering it was in good shape. I did run a new hot wire to the amp gauge out to the engine compartment, no bulkhead connection. I went through it all when it was on my dining room table. I also had a spare in my parts box that I used some pieces from.

Taillight wiring is factory but checked and re wrapped. Engine, neutral safety, and front lights are all new harnesses.

I replaced it all except for the dash. I am struggling with it. The interior harnesses are like new but since you need to pull the glass to get the dash out I am scared I am taking a risk that I will regret later....

If it ain't broke..... If you need to work on it is soo much easier with the front seat out and heater box out of the way. I would not pull a windshield to work on a dash harness. I have to install my windshield and am not looking forward to it.

Dropped the pistons and rings off at the machine shop. I am really happy with the machinist. He went into everything, and even the special tolerances with the kb hyper pistons. He has used them in racing applications and seems to know how to set them up.

For the bore, decking (if needed), cam bearings, rod bearings, crank bearings, crank polish, balance assembly, freeze plugs, filing rings, fitting pistons , and assembly he quoted me $1100. I plan to do the cam install and degreeing myself. Seems reasonable and less I have to worry about. I need to get him my arp rod bolts before he starts the balance. Super happy!
