1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

Got a little bit done. Picked up some single stage Utech urethane in black to do the interior doors and hood (with flattening agent) at a later date. So I rolled the car out and taped off the jamb area and threw a beater cover over the rest. Weather was nice today, scuffed the clear, degreased, tacked and shot. The rear upper panels looked like glass (wish my clear sprayed that good). Also shot some random bolts that had been blasted. Turned out pretty good I think considering I kind of half a$$ed it. Looks decent in the sun but I found a small area near the headlight that is light in basecoat. I'm not too worried about it, more things on the plate.

Some interior trim installed. Rubber door jamb mouldings, roof weatherstripping channel, quarter window covers, door card chrome, etc. Just rummaging through my pile and reducing it.

Between cleaning up and sorting parts I re coated my armrest bezels. Scuffed them with scotch Brite pad, DE greased and sprayed. They are in really good shape except the finish.

Got the manual steering box in as well as the tie rods and center link. Adjusted the toe pretty close to center so I could get the steering shaft in the correct orientation and then put in the steering column in. I still need to get a roll pin for the coupler but the box is adjusted pretty good and feels tight. There is a ton of room on the steering column so I am going to move the tachometer to it.

Zip tied to the column and wired to the fuse block. I like it better!

Learn something new everyday, thanks! I did fill it with Acra glass last night so it wouldn't be too obvious but the color isn't dead on so a center stripe it is. Funny how every rally wheel splits top dead center.

Well, today is windshield day I guess. Gasket arrived a few hours ago so I laid it out in the windshield opening for it to relax. I have the correct 3m bedding caulk for the bottom and lower sides. Seems to fit really well. My trim clips are in and dash bolts tightened. I'll probably go grocery shopping now and get started when I get back. I still need to clean the windshield...

On the 3 cowl tabs, it looks like they sit in the groove on the gasket backside so it sits flat.

I can't say that was very fun. Kind of frustrating really. I put a 3/8" bead around the base and up the sides of the window channel as well as the upper L and R corners per the service manual. Then I cleaned off my old windshield in the driveway. There are a few pits and a small rock pop (which will get fixed) but it is in otherwise good shape. I figured if I broke it, no big deal but it went in and should be good for another 47 years.

A plastic windshield stick is a must. I should have got two.

With the windshield clean, I hosed the gasket down with glass cleaner and set the base of the windshield in the gasket. From there, you have to get one and then the other corner. I started on the passenger side and worked over to the driver side. The upper corners are a bear, thing would not drop until the last 1/32" of gasket was out of the way. Worked it up and down, left and right, lather rinse, repeat. Once it dropped in, setting the bead lock was a piece of cake. Stick the stick in at the right angle, push the outside lip up and press in the lock all as you slide the tool.

I did it by myself and it took about 45 minutes once the base was set. I went back and put some compound in the openings at the corners. There was also compound on the paint around the opening, on my gloves, my shirt and I think the dog had some on him lol. You have been warned...

Ok you are going to have make a trip to Sonoita and help me put mine in soon....

looks great! i'm not looking forward to installing my windshield.

You will do fine. I would check the manual because the convertible windshield may be different. Either way, you have to massage those upper corners.

I got bored and started looking at my door cards. The rear cards are excellent except for the wood grain paper. Replacements are about $100 each and these are for the rear seats and the board is like new. So I drove into town on a scavenger hunt, finally found wood grained contact paper at Home Depot. The color is a shade lighter than the old stuff but for $7.00 who cares. Also, I have a ton of this stuff left over is someone wants any. I left the paper on the back of the replacement and glued up the card and the paper with the same 3M stuff I used on the headliner. Worked great. The chrome plastic strip in the center lost its' chrome but it is hard to tell unless you really look.

For the front, I will need new cards as the board is warped and rotted. And I cannot find the driver side card anywhere and cannot find the stainless divider strip either. It is possible it was missing when I got the car as I didn't take a really good look. If anyone has a spare stainless driver side trim strip (holds the top of the door card and separates it from the black upper section) I would be interested. Thanks!

Great job! I don't think that I have enough confidence to try to install my front windshield.
The wood grain looks good.

It really isn't bad. Bottom goes in, work a side and top corner and work your way around. This was the first one I had ever done and took 45 minutes by myself.

I got my A pillar mouldings installed. Driver side is missing a tab and I had to plastic weld the passenger side. Not bad shape and look good. New pieces are $177! so maybe in the future I will get new ones.

I also cleaned up the rear view mirror and installed it as well as the sun visors. The visors were in excellent shape except the stitching was pulled out. I got out my needle and thread and sewed them back up and put them in.
