Well, it's home...
Paint for the most part is pretty decent....and that's the good news. Exterior body panels have very few flaws in them and the car is very appeasing to look at. Since these pictures, I've put on the quarter extensions, hood inserts, hood latch support and the front valance. She also got her first bath.
I do have some issues though that I'll try to address here and hopefully get some help.
Problem #1
Last week, I went out to the shop to get pictures of the car. The previous pictures (above) are from the body shop. So, this was the first time I actually saw the car. One major problem, the trunk wasn't painted. When he was standing in my garage over a year ago going over the quote, I stated multiple times what needed to be done. I guess he didn't listen and it was never put in writing. Lesson learned. I was pissed, he was pissed....wasn't a good situation. Toward the end of last week, we were finally talking again. I told him, "Look, I know it's not what you want to hear, but it needs done. Let's just figure out a way to get the trunk painted and home." I even told him that I don't care if single stage was used in the trunk.
So, the car came home on tuesday. And it's not what I was expecting. He was apparently more pissed off than I gave him credit for. He painted the trunk...but it's an absolute mess. No sanding at all....didn't even bother to vaccum the trunk out. Painted over all kinds of garbage. Bolt heads, dirt, paper, trash...whatever was in the trunk was painted over. Not only that....but he didn't mask the tail filler panel....and now it too has trash, dirt and dust in it. So, the old saying "If you want it done right, you'll have to do it yourself" comes into play. I've never painted a body panel in my life and I guarantee I can do a better job then this guy did in the trunk. So, I'll have to get that all sanded down, wrap the whole car and get it re-shot myself next week. (No pictures....made me sick to my stomach to even look at it.)
Problem #2
This may or may not be a big deal...simply because I don't know the answer. I'm going to lean on you guys for this.
Hood to fender gaps: Opposite ends of the spectrum. The driver side gap could barley slide a piece of paper thru. Passenger side gap I can stick my finger in. Now, this isn't as simple as moving the hood to the point where they're even. The stripes are already in. I can't move the hood or it will screw up the lines between the hood and cowl. The right fender will have to come in and the left fender will need pushed out. Not sure how to do that or if it's even possible? In the pictures posted above, the hood gaps look equal. I'm not sure what happened between then and now. Is this something that can be fixed without repainting the hood stripes?
Thanks again for all your help.
