1969 Road Runner facelift

I put on about 300 miles on the blue bike today. Went down to visit my uncles family and I helped get his bike put together as the ladies would like to have it at the church for his funeral. His is the white bike in this photo, mine is the blue one.

They asked if i could drive it to the church for them this week.

Not going to have to twist my arm..

Very sorry to hear of your Uncle Passing Dave. My condolences to you and your entire family. The heartfelt respect you have for the man was quite obvious here on the site. Very cool deal with the bikes! Both of them are beautiful rides. BTW.....Nice work on spraying out the Bronze metallic's. Looks like she flowed well for you. 1.5 tip? Looking forward to seeing the Tin Chicken back to it's former glory wearing the Bronze

Thanks prop, I used a 1.4 on a pretty decent sharpe gravity gun I have but Pam ordered me a brand new devilbiss plus gun with the quart sized dekups system. That's a damn fine gun. I'll probably receive it tomorrow.

Just a little bit runnerman :)

My new devilbiss GFG-670 is not here yet ....grrrr :(

But I have plenty of work to do before it gets here on monday.

Yeah it's a good one. I'm partial to the devilbiss frame in the top end of their offerings. Back in the 90's I'm certain I sprayed all of 50,000 gallons of paint through a pressure feed JGA body devilbiss.

The plus gun is a real winner, and the dekups system will cut down on my solvent use and my mixing cup usage as I can measure and mix right in the disposable liners. I am also unlimited on gun angle with the disposable cup liner system, I can spray with the gun upside down and it's not going to drip. No vent to fuss with, it's just awesome all the way around.

The car is blocking out perfectly with 400 grit, the body lines are sharp and the body is nice and straight. half way around the main body with this final lap with the blocks.

Howdy guys, it's time to break ground on my 69 roadrunner.

Maybe a little intro first.

I purchased the car late last summer, drove it for a few months and put it away for the winter.

It's a lynch road 383 car with a 4 speed. fresh air hood, power steering, tan interior, exterior originally T7 bronze with white vinyl top.

It was painted white in 76 and at that time it also got some era correct mural and funky panel color paint.

Body hasn't been touched since it got this funky paint job in 76.

Decided to go back to the start of this thread again and it just hit me. I'm pretty sure I've seen this car in a car magazine years ago probably in the late 70's or early 80's or another one with an extremely similar mural and rainbow color bands on the side. Anyway I'm really enjoying this transformation and look forward to the 69's resurrection. My dad bought a brand new 69' Bronze car with tan interior, 4 speed and AG.

I immediately bit into the dash pad while setting in the front seat with my 4 year old teeth and left a complete set of imprints of my top and bottom teeth in in the top and bottom of the tan pad. Dad wrecked that car 4 months later, totaled it and went out and bought an A4 4 speed w/o the AG. Another thing about this picture that reminds me of Dad is he loved the old Keystone Classics.

Decisions, decisions... do I start the body work on the hood today or should I get color on the insides of doors and underside of trunk lid....

I guess I better get the hood ready for paint on the A-side then shoot color on the back sides of all these items at the same time.

:mob::computer::happy1::computer:popcorn::icon_thumright:looking good keep it up we all are enjoying your build ,spend some time with mom ma

Oh well, it's coming along nicely.

I need to get it nice and straight, no flat black stripes on this one, it's all shine.

There it is guys, the devilbiss GFG-670 with the quart sized dekups disposable cup liner system.

It came with an inlet air regulator and 3 fluid tips. 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4

I have been drooling over this gun for several years now, wishing I had one. I guess the road runner is a special enough project to me, it justified the purchase of a new spray gun. And I'm very happy about having the dekups system too. I can swing that gun around upside down for rockers and those awkward places like inside the trunk, no drips. I'll save on cleaning solvent, save on mixing cups etc. I figure it's a wash expense wise when I consider the cost of mixing cups and cleaning solvent. plus I get the benefit of absolute dripless cup, spray upside down if I want, no crusty paint cup lid to fuss with and worry about.... It's awesome.
