1969 Roadrunner rust ratification

Really early test fitting. Figure the country club would rather see the black qtr than the other.
Got another lead on a 69 but the owner is wanting 4 times what I paid for this one and in worse shape so I keep moving forward with this one. Very glad to see solid metal on the inner structure and inner rocker.

More test fitting. Had a bone head moment when I cut the trunk rail loose on the passenger side, forgot to measure so I am glad the drivers side is still together.
I have been praising AMD but the quarters are requiring some work, not major but the flange for the back window was short so no matter what it would have been off from the dutchman panel. RE folded it and all is well. The edge where closest to the trunk lid at the dutchman panel is tilted up more than factory so that needs to be flattened.

One question. How are you guys going under the roof when doing these? About 3 inches towards the pinch welds is too tight to slide under. I did drill out a couple of spot welds under the channel at the pinch weld to remove the old qtr but that does not seem to be enough to get under it.

OK, scratch the how do you get the qtr under the roof, got it under would not go due to a tab on the new qtr back at the rear window. Fitment is pretty good now.
Had to work on the inner wells. Someone had rolled the edges for bigger tires, regardless there was no saving the last inch or two. I may buy a replacement for the drivers side. I made this side.

Last behind the scenes rust repair hidden by the qtr. I will be welding the qtr to this so no seam when done. Happy with the door gap so far and deck lid gaps.

Also is it common for the dutchman panel to be shorter than the qtr? Getting a good fit everywhere now and the ends are just off. I can slice and shorten the qtr edge as that seems to be what is too wide based on the deck lid gap. I do not have the back end clamped but you can still tell it is short.

Wanted to see the color in light. I was planning on painting all this anyway but am now on the fence on the color. Will start real fitment now that everything has been dealt with behind the scenes.

Really nice! keep up!
Thanks alot. This qtr is about ready to be welded, need to add the extension. Going to brace the other side and pull that side. Was not wanting both qtrs off at the same time but I am going to have to pull everything to match gaps anyway. Way way early but neat to see some color somewhere. I was hoping Q5 was a little darker though. Making me lean towards Black.

Am loving this build , what fantastic progress. AMD metal gets my vote too even though my guy had to do the odd nip and tuck.
Keep up the great work.

You're moving fast indeed! I'm approximately at the same point... But first before welding qtrs I'm putting back the window mechanism in place. then I'll be able to weld AMD qtrs.

Thanks. I am waiting on new trim and I will fit everything to the back window too. So I may be screwing it in for the time being. Some parts are on back order (crossmember extensions etc) so I can't hammer down yet.

Thanks for the feedback, easily motivates to keep moving

Haven't had near the time I wanted due to some side jobs taking up weekends, but at least that is financing this so I am at a net cost of zero on metal. I did rip the drivers side off and test fitted the new qtr. Luckily the inner fender well is in much better shape on this side. Will be minimal patching. I need to order the extensions that sandwich on the rear cross member, so it will still be a while before anything is melted together. Probably going to rip out the drivers side Trunk gutter as well. It looked better than it is.

I'd consider it a no question! If the price was decent, I would scoop it.
4-5Kish. We were talking about it and a Challenger so I did not get a final price. Very solid complete car, Drivers door has rust but that was the extent.
