1969 Roadrunner rust ratification

Is that a "I'm going to fix it up sometime" or something he is actually selling? The fastback Ford looks like a good project too.
That one is " It is my dad's and he left it here, he has been saying he is going to fix it but hasn't touched it in a year." I do have an email and phone number for it, he did say it could be up for sale depending on what house projects his dad is doing. So there may be hope, as with any car I try to explain to the wife, it looks to be in better shape than the ones in the mix now.

Drivers side has required much more forcing to fit right. Had to weld a piece of 1/8 steel behind the door to give me enough bite to set the door gap. The sheet metal was stripping and with cleckos would not hold the two part tight. Now it has a pretty even gap. Pic may not show it well as the door is sitting out a little but about the same as the other side. I still have to weld the trunk drop off and rear crossmember extension and paint the inner on this side so a ways to go still but glad it is set now.

Got the drivers side trunk drop off welded in. If it is warm enough tomorrow I will prime and paint the insides and get ready to finally weld the qtrs.

I do have a question. The driver trunk rail could be used but is not super solid, I spot blasted it up by the dutchman panel and it is soft and weak. I bought a new one from AMD

If I remove it do I save the body number part or weld it back in? I am not going for all original especially with drivetrain so it may not matter but curious as to you guys thoughts.

Good thing is the neighbor walked over today and instead of complaining about two inop cars (we live in the country club) he went on and on about how cool they were and how shocked he was I had found two so I feel like they are not as much of an eye sore.

Had a race with the temps today and was able to get the inside of the qtrs shot and the inner fender area sprayed. Color has grown on me for sure.
Now I can move towards welding both qtrs on.

Lookin Good! Keep up the great progress.
Thank you.I try to stay motivated but I do appreciate you guys stopping in and helping me along.

I finally was happy enough with the pass qtr to nail it down for good. Of course I ran out of gas before welding the bottom flange but everything honestly is sitting where it did a month ago so just a matter of melting wire. Sure do like pushing down on the qtr and the entire car move as one now.

Lower trunk gutter was trash so I had to replace. Passenger side had a small spot I repaired but this was bad all the way down. One thing I notice is the AMD qtr fits their repair parts better than the factor gutter. Trunk gap is really good without the dutchman panel. Gives up a little with it in place. I bought another in hopes it was shorter but it is not. I will need one for the 70 so it was no waste.

I did add some more wall art for the garage. I also stumbled on a hoard of parts over the holiday. Working a deal to bring the e bodies to a buddies place and grab the B body parts for myself.

I sure hate to see those cars rotting away. I hope you and your buddy can save them.

Reminds me of a guy I had bought parts from way back in the 80s lol. He had a farm out in N Ky filled with old Mopars, just rows and rows of them in a cow pasture. Sold them off at some time, and don't know whatever happened to him. Had a hemi superbird, baby blue I remember, that he drove.

I am the same way, I hate to see any classics rot.
Sadly of the 7 E bodies he has only one looked to be a builder. He also had a ton of parts so we are hoping to get everything at once. I don't have the space to store the E bodies so I passed them on to him. The good thing is this guy does know time is not on their side and is trying to cash out now. he was off the mark on a few B Body cars or we would get them too.

Can't say I am super happy with the tail light fitment but I am going to move forward. The qtr contour is a little off at the very bottom.
Going to start welding the drivers qtr in once the weather cooperates.

Thanks to these two getting into a fight and me thinking I needed to be the one to break it up, I now have an injured right hand that will put a halt to progress for a little bit.
Gaps are right and all plug welds holes drilled for when I can manage the welder.

Hand is well so drivers qtr is melted at the door and window. Still have the lower to do.

Slow go waiting to heal. I did do the fender wells on both sides to the displeasure of the wife. Does look better locked down instead of the bottoms flapping around.Only have tail light sections and extensions left to weld up.

That suck's....

Yep that is my left hand, the younger one is now in full blown training.

Hope to get the stitches out tomorrow.

Since it was 70 Yesterday I could not help but try and get something done.
I mentioned elsewhere I was not happy with the qtr contour at the tail light. At rest it would not sit flush with the trim. I was able to weld the qtr partially and then p[ull the bottom in only at the housing and was able to get a pretty nice fit.

Now except for the gutters (will weld after the dutchman) and lower extensions (don't feel like messing underneath with one hand) the qtrs are full in place.

I am on the fence if I do full qtrs on the 70, the final is worth it but it took much longer than I expected. Also have to do a little nip and tuck on the rear window opening, both sides are a little "fat" where it meets the roof.

Stitches come out tomorrow. I went ahead and melted the package tray in place. The dutchman panel is bowing a little at the middle. I will have to either shorten it or tilt the deck up a little to allow the lip to sit a little higher. I have put this trunk on about 500 times but glad I am or would not have caught that. We have some warm weather the next week so hoping to make up some ground.

No stitches but my steady hand is sore.
I have fought with the qtr and dutchman panel fitment since it arrived. When I would pull the qtr to match it would turn up right at the corner where the deck lid would meet so it was making a bermuda triangle problem so to speak. After I welded in the package tray, the dutchman panel was bowed pretty bad in the middle so much so that the deck lid was never going to gap well next to it. I had pondered slicing the edge from day one but could see no way around it.
1st pic shows the gap opening and second shows the slice half way through to give it a good fit. I can say everything now fits pretty good, except the gutters for the qtrs so I will have to see what is causing the issues there. I will decide on changing the front floor out but this is close to it for metal work for the shell so I can get the hammer and dollies out.

All welded in except the brace at the ledge and trunk brackets, figured I would do all that at once. Now all my clamps and such are free.

I had the same issue with my dutchman panel between factory quarters. For the pass side I had to modify the front end on the pass side as it looks like you did.

Yeah it was never going to work, when it was clamped to fit the drivers side was way off. I hate putting seams in new metal but oh well, I hate huge gaps too.
