1970 Coronet R/T Project (Dasfusca's Car)

I just read through this thread at work and you are doing some super nice work! I love what you have done so far and that is a great looking car. I think that is the most unique Mopar of the muscle era. I look forward to following along.

I took some time off from this project to build a new garage. As far as my R/T, am right where I left off so you haven't missed anything.
I am sending my steering box out to Firm Feel for a rebuild. I cleaned up the engine compartment and it looks presentable.
I was going to paint it but I may not. I have a problem with all those extra holes under where the washer bottle goes. Which ones are suppose to be there?
I will weld up the ones that are not stock.

THANX for the pic....mine is void of all that...

What r they charging you to rebuild it ? ...THANX!

Firm feel charges $359 for the rebuild.
or I might go with the Stage III rebuild for a little more.

III drives like a modern car. Funny thing, I purchased my car as a basket case. I have never driven it. I have no idea what a classic B body is suppose to be like. I hear they are overpowered assisted with little feed back(what ever that means)

So its between II or III

Stages I, II, III (Rebuilds)

PSB1.......$359
PSB2.......$359
PSB3.......$379

Garage envy . . . .
Is your 2 post kissing the ceiling so you had to line up the metal rib to clear? Any movement? Love the paneled ceiling look though.
I would replace that lawn chair you have with a lazyboy just to stare at your stable of iron. Really appreciate the eclectic mix, although most people think us 70 Coronet lovers are strange to begin with.

The Lift was tight. The Vent line connecting the two towers is actually run in the attic.
The problem was that we added an extra inch to the concrete that made the ceiling height just under 12 feet. It fit right in-between the corrugated ribs.

The lawn chair was for my wife to hang out. She doesn't stay long. She says the shop stinks like chemicals.

I love the 1970 Coronet Verts. Convertible R/T's are so rare.

Here is what I have if I need a Convertible fix.
I have owned this VW for 28 years.

The Super Beetle, I had a friend who parents had one of these growing up. I remember how agile they felt compared to other cars of the day. Yours appears to be in excellent shape!! Fun on wheels. It is great that I found your thread!! It will help a bunch on my builds.

Steering Box- I mailed my steering box to firm feel Friday. It cost $78 from NJ to Washington State. I ordered it to be built with the STAGE III set up.

I did a little more welding today. I am now using the 220 line instead of the 110. I think it may be quieter and flow better. A bunch more welds and the outers will be done. I also got really tied of looking at that rusty front bumper support. The nuts were actually rusting away. How does that happen? I found some new ones that looked almost identical to the originals. I painted the whole thing with rust bullet and after I sand it down and prime, I am painting it flat black.

Salt...it eats EVERYTHING...here in ILL it really messes with bridges...

After I wire wheeled the bumper support, I gave it a few coats of Rust bullet. I sanded in between coats and most of the pox disappeared. I sanded with 200 grit and it is now in black primer. I will paint it semi gloss black in a few days when I get a chance. Those nice clean nuts are my new ones. I found a few good engine compartment pictures before I cleaned it and painted the bumper support.

In order to get the battery tray bolts out, I had to make them into giant screws with a cut off wheel and use my biggest screw driver to get them out. I let them soak for a few hours before I got them to come out. I tried to find bolts that looked like the original battery tray bolts. I have to paint the bolts and the tray f8 before I put it in for good.
I had to weld up two holes under the battery tray too. Everything else was good. No radiator support damage or front frame rust.
