1970 Coronet R/T Project (Dasfusca's Car)

Are these mounts for the end extensions suppose to be on a slant? They look odd to me. If you read this and you have pics of these things, feel free to give ma a link or pictures.

Gotta love those trunks, get in the fetal position and weld, weld, weld, weld. Trunk looks great, keep plugging away.

Your a very talented fabricator, seeing the issues you have dealt with successfully makes me appreciate my 70 Coronets condition....ARIZONA for most of its life.IMG_20130622_094639.jpg

Looking good, nothing like new to replace the old! looking forward to this one done, i imagine you are more but this body style with that color seems to really look great! I had a RR close to that color and it just never looked good to me...

A previous owner (two owners back) provided me with the original air breather that was missing when I purchased the car. Its always nice to get the original parts united back with a car.

Here are a few shots of my new Glen-ray max cool radiator. The original fan shroud fits it perfectly. They provide the bolts and clamps that would have been used originally. Since my car was missing my radiator, I went this route instead of finding an original and having it recored. It looks fantastic. it's a dead ringer for an original. It even has a date code stamped oin it.

Very nice fit. The marker light is in a perfect location. I still have not cut away the old metal quarter. I want to make sure the wheel well and panel is in the right location. I used the eastwood clips to hold it in place. I will use those for a guide after I cut away the old quarter.

here is a small problem. The area for the bumper is a little lower on the new panel. I will hammer that into the proper spot before I cut away the old.

The quarter, rear panel and extension all come together nicely.

I remember reading somewhere that you should cut out the old quarter with the new one mounted on top of the old one. That way when you cut through both panels the lines will be the same with the proper spacing. Just a thought.

For butt welding, I saw someone remove most of the quarter except a 2 inch overlap. Then they cut trough both pieces just before they butt welded them. So they welded as they cut.

I am not sure if I am going to butt weld or lap weld the quarters. I may even glue them with 3m's product. Body buys swear by the glue. Makes me uneasy

Anyone reading this ever glue on a quarter panel?

I used that glue once on a 66 Chevelle, i felt the same way and the body guys told me the same even showing me pictures of cars that were wrecked that had glued on quarter panels, they did stay intact! I sold the car 3 years after i did it and as far as i know its still on there, i did feel the same "uneasy though... Good luck to you!

I hammered the bumper opening to match the original on the car.

I did the glue method on the cuda and works great

That's how I did my repair's, like others I'm a bit uneasy about gluing a car together "fix metal with metal". Be patient with it giving it time to cool and remember to use a grinder that knocks the welds down quickly and doesn't build a lot of heat. Good luck
