1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite from Junk to......

Daily Zen....... Save everything, never use force and be patient and methodical when disassembling an old car.......

I too have a good trunk sticker but I need to do some rust repair work on the trunk lip. I will make the repair, single stage the underside of the trunk lid, and replace the sticker with a repop (they are getting pretty good with reproducing these).

Wondering about this finish. Its a grit type that I believe was unique to the Sport Satellite and the GTX? Was it always silver for both cars regardless of the exterior color?

Received my Blair spot weld drills a head of schedule yay. They look and are so much better than the Chineseium HF junk. Made in the USA. Shall I digress here? OK back in Chicago I used to hang out at a place called The bucket Of Suds lol. Joe Danno and his wife operated and made food and all sorts of liqueurs. He was a product of the 50’s and is long gone along with the BOS. I had this sticker affixed to an old tool box and am surprised I still have it all these years later. He had the foresight in the early sixties to make that phrase Buy Buy American or its Bye Bye America. Tell that to all the corporate executives who make the decisions to go overseas......

Get the Lead Out is a good song to listen to today. Why anyone would choose to grind and sand this out is beyond me. Took 5 mins to torch it off....... Being a Pyro it was fun to!

You told me this would be easy, you told me this would be fun you told me I would enjoy myself but as Hank RIP from the south side of Chicago in the old fab shop used to always say “you’re a lying son of a bitch”.

So these sail panels have a complex compound curve. This should be very interesting to fab. At least I have enough to use as a template/model.

Under structure looks great.

when you come in from the garage and asks "what are you bleeding?" and you just say I dunno...then you know you're been messing with old cars too long.

Lens assembly’s out of there.

Progress on the driver sail panel. Multiple spot weld passes. I need to learn how to be less aggressive at grinding....oh and I never used weld through primer. I learned that you can’t mig it if its on the weld side surface....

That's some great progress Ron. Glad you got that rusty roof off. How does the sub structure look?

Also, AMD repops the window corner metal if you get frustrated enough lol. The sail panel fab looks nice!

Thanks Mark. Yup some of the under structure is not holding up to the welds. So I am fabricating as I go. I can see why people buy panels and just slap them on. I like this work because its half art half structural half process ur 1/3 1/3 1/3 lol

Damn do I feel your pain on this project. I started with a 1970 Plymouth Satellite that was running and driving, but rotten underneath. Ended up replacing the floor, inner and outer rockers, quarters, trunk, outer tubs, rear cross sill, trunk drops, and cross sill extensions. If it wasn't for my ability to do all the metal work myself, welding, etc, I would never have been able to afford to do a car this far gone. A few pics below. Either way, keep up the great work.

Thanks Mark, its a labor of love and satisfaction that you have when you complete each section and then when your done you get to drive it! I find this work highly therapeutic in nature given that I usually am behind a computer or in a lab all day and nite.

Nice work, MF. Good to see you getting after it.
