1972 Viper Powered Charger

Still wiring.. It's like a rats nest under the dash.. I'll have to take some pictures when I'm at the shop tonight, it's pretty hilarious the amount of papers, tools, and stuff hanging down..

Congrats, sounds great

keep up the great work

The new harness was great, a few different connectors here and there, but for actually starting it, a breeze.. One wire for ECM always powered, and another for the +12 ignition..

Had an appraiser come by so I can get storage insurance, so I threw the body panels on, and adjusted them.. Not too bad..

Threw the tail lights in to see what the back looked like.. They're '72 SE Tail lights, that have been tinted, with the grilles removed.. They look very similar to the 69/70 back end.. Turned out real nice.. I used a painted '71 Super Bee rear bumper.
Everyone uses 71 R/T tail lights, I like things to be a bit different.
Roughed the front-end together, '71 Grilles, with a smoothed out '72 SE Bumper. Finally found some seats as well, 2011-13 Viper seats.. I have the 2003 ACR aftermarket 5 point harnesses I just won on eBay to go with them.. Should be a nice look.

and a recent purchase has been stealing some of my time.. It spends more time like this than driving.. Damn Chevy's.. 116k KM's, 5.7 with T-tops, and red leather..

Thanks! I can't wait to assemble them with the ACR belts, it's gonna be wicked cool in there.. I also installed my 70-74 Challenger/Charger wood steering wheel.. Man, this interior is gonna be neat.. Here's a pic of the gauges, I hadn't put the wheel in yet, but I wired these all up, and mocked them up for an idea..

^^^Beautiful Bee, And I cant Wait Until this Viper Charger is done it is going to be Awesome.

Wow! please post some more pictures.

Very nice. My first car was a 72 Charger and I like the purple.

I know your pain on this build.............I'm doing a 63 Polara with 08 Viper parts.

------------

I know it was nice to not have to cut into the firewall, but that engine is pretty far forward.

I ended up with mine with front close to axle line.

The V10 is LOOOONG.....9 inches longer than the /6

I considered cutting the firewall at first, especially talking to people who had done the swap into a Challenger, and I was skeptical, my point had been at the time, the front of the 383/400/440/426 would have lined up central to my 1 and 2 Cylinders, the fact that my new engine is much less weight than the old Cast Iron blocks/heads, I couldn't forsee an issue..

On that note, I didn't expect much in the handling department, as the car is 19 feet long, has leaf springs, and has a Viper engine.. I reckon that it's going to be a mass of tire smoke, and awesome when I let it go, which in my book is a hell of a lot better than being able to turn.

Wow, congrats!!! Looks awesome and I imagine there was allot of smiling on that maiden voyage as well. Love the little Viper touch to the hood too.

Some smiling, some cursing, lots of cursing.. I'm getting a safety and alignment done this week, so maybe they'll let me steal the dealer plate for a ride around the block.. It literally has a seat, steering wheel, shifter, and gauge cluster for an interior right now, so it's like driving a NASCAR.

Well........you also have lots more engine bay than I have. I figured if I'm cutting...........I'm cutting. If you look at my build pics you will see it is set way back there.........and really had to be.

I had a poly 318 and 727............the V10 and 6 speed actually are very close to the same weight so I was pleased that I had to shift it back anyway.............it should handle fairly well.
